Thompson and Venables? Be fair, they were kids.

ps it's Pete Townshend. So much for all the fans on here.

Yes, I realise that, was too late to do anything about it when I realised - and I think everyone else has just been too polite to say!

As to T&V, they knew what they were doing was wrong - and there's an awful lot on that case that didn't go out into the public domain as well.

haha, OBL just Napstered Napster with an "I know something you don't know!"

There are really times when some of you on here are completely moronic. I posted something I thought would be of interest to a lot of you on here with the Who having been such giants in the music world and probably quite significant in many of your lives musically and suddenly it's turned into a tirade on child pornography and generally patronising have a go at me time.

I'd remind those of you bigots out there that Operation Ore was largely discredited, see this link: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2007/apr/19/hitechcrime.money

As to those having a pop, well, it's the fairly usual culprits in the main, amazing how they all group together at times like this - and I suppose as it's silly season then it's fair enough. You know what to do if you don't like my posts, as I've said before on many occasions, just put me on ignore then you won't have to read them. There are plenty of people who don't have an issue, the fact that I have lots of conversations with lots of people on here is just a feature of my personality and I also join in with stuff like the Battles and Big Brother so my post count continuously rises - I'm not one for making one off profound and thought provoking posts. I'm sorry if you don't like it - I've changed my posting a LOT (even Einstein said so), I'm not changing AGAIN because a minority of you don't like it.

I was interested, thank you, having seen The Who as early as 1970 at the Isle of Wight and as recently as the Indigo2 gig a few months back and loads of times in between. There are always people ready to jump on a bandwagon and pontificate about something based on rumour, half truth or, worse than that, media reports.

Undoubtedly it did cost him a lot, and now apparently, as reported in the weekend papers, he appears to have skin cancer so maybe God is wreaking his revenge where the justices couldn't. Who knows?

I find it very hard to accept that it is the same group of posters on here that repeatedly take issue with things I say/write and then also have a go at me for being neurotic. It may be a bloke thing, I'm afraid, as a woman I don't see the attraction in porn sites of any sort, however, I am aware there are sick people out there with perverted practices (remember the couple in Wakering with the dog reported recently?), I understand people being angry but I'd much rather reserve my anger and derision for people like Ian Brady, Thompson and Venables, Sidney Cooke and co.

You are not suggesting that people who view porn sites are sick are you?

fair enough, but it's no "rumour" that Townshend was cautioned for looking at child pornography... and that he is now on the sex offenders register

Pete T.

At least if I'd gone though Harry, I could have got some signed stuff for you!

OBL,
My young(er) bruv Shrimpero already has some "signed stuff" from his hero.
Namely a rather fetching signed photo from Pete hoping that they would get to meet up on the Liz(ard)sometime.(PT has or had a house down that way I believe.Currently on display at my Bruv's place in Penzance.Rob sent PT some of the stuff he was writing at the time and Pete was kind enough to reply.
I remember going to see The Who with Rob at Hammersmith Odeon many moons ago.Excellent concert. The reformed group(what's left of the Who, as I refer to them these days, were due to play here in Barna a couple of years back but pulled out because of poor advance ticket sales.Needless to say I'd already bought a pair of tickets).
As far as the porn issue goes-if there had of been any case to answer then surely the Police woud have prosecuted?

she's just jealous that she didn't get nominated for POTY. I've now nominated her for her own special end of year award

I think you'll find he is no longer on the sex offenders register. It was a five year term.

He had "fully co-operated" with the investigation and police had "unconditionally accepted" his explanation that he had looked at the site as research for his "campaign" against child pornography. He has done much work for charities, especially children's charities, both before and after the allegations. He has also done good works in the field of drug rehabilitation.

Some of his charitable stuff includes:

Townshend has been an active champion of children’s charities. The debut of Pete Townshend’s stage version of Tommy took place at San Diego’s La Jolla Playhouse in July 1992. The show was earmarked as a benefit for the London-based Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Foundation, an organization which helps children with autism and mental retardation.

Townshend performed at a 1995 benefit organized by Paul Simon at Madison Square Garden's Paramount Theatre, for The Children’s Health Fund. The following year, Townshend performed at a benefit for the Bridge School, a California facility for children with severe speech and physical impairments. In 1997, Townshend established a relationship with Maryville Academy, a Chicago area children’s charity. Between 1997 and 2002, Townshend played five benefit shows for Maryville Academy, raising at least $1,600,000. In addition, proceeds from the sales of his 1999 release Pete Townshend Live were also donated to Maryville Academy.

As a member of The Who, Pete Townshend has also performed a series of concerts, beginning in 2000, benefitting the Teenage Cancer Trust in the UK, raising several million pounds. In 2005, Townshend performed at New York’s Gotham Hall for Samsung’s Four Seasons of Hope, an annual children's charity fundraiser.

When you have done 0.1 percent of that much good work, then have a go at him.

 Anyone care to retract any of what they've said earlier?

And Pubey, I have no idea what you're on about.

Most of use haven't raised millions for charity.

Most of us have also never accepted a caution for this type of behaviour either.

I'm quite alright thanks, thousands break their back raising money for charity... Not many of them have downloaded child porn.

and it seems only a couple of people are comfortable with the idea of a celebrities altruistic work somehow "making it ok" for the crime that he committed.

Which was based on some dubious evidence of a botched operation.
