Well nobody apart from Townshend knows the whole story, but I still would say if there was anything vaguely linking Townshend with paedophilia they would have thrown the book at him, as per Langham.

Langham's hardly had the book thrown at him. He's back where he was, writing comedy and mixing in the same circles.

Is he? Jeez, I'd imagine he writes under a pseudonym. He did spend awhile inside though, unlike PT who got little more than a smack on the wrists.

If there was nothing linking him would he (presumably on his lawyers advice) have accepted a caution?

I am willing to believe Pete Townshend's explaination and judge him of being guilty of nothing more than being unbelievably stupid and showing incredibly poor judgement.

However, if people didn't pay for this material (for whatever reason) I am sure fewer kids would be victims of this type of abuse.

I seem to remember watching a documentary at the time about the whole operation and they actually showed him being doorstepped and then taken away by the police. They then played the recorded audio of his police interview. He never denied downloading the stuff or paying for it on his credit card at any time and accepted the caution that followed. What is open to interpretation are his unusual reasons for doing so. In his favour they found nothing child related on his hardrive or on any of the other PCs in his house.

Perhaps only he knows the truth as to why he paid to look at those images but since then many teenage boys have claimed to be doing "research" into the mistreatment of pornstars when questioned by their mothers about the reading material found under their beds. Who is to say who is telling the truth?
 
All i want to know is would Pete Townshend nick a Samosa from the Deli counter , eat it and then not pay for it at the counter ???

I reckon he would and also say that he was gonna pay for it on his own credit card and also he would be very cooperative with the police , maybe he was writing a cookery book and wanted to know what 'free' Vegetable samosa's tasted like , nothing like a bit of hands on research !
 
No, I am NOT a teacher, not that it makes any difference anyway. I am heartily sickened by the attitude of some of you and if Pubey thinks my initial post at the top of this thread is the Worst Post of the Year, then I guess he's forgetting what he wrote that caused this to be posted just about 6 months or so ago:

Yes, I have an issue - you come across as some big keyboard warrior but have successfully avoided meeting me now on three occasions, which speaks volumes. Now, you may protest all you like about Pete Townshend but his "crime" is NOT in the same bracket as any of the other accused people mentioned on here, I resent the "bullying" mentality you often apply to posts directed at me, and abhor the fact that so many on here seem to find your unpleasantness worthy of so much +rep.

There may have been an uneasy truce for a while, but I think you've made your intentions quite clear. You keep accusing me of thinking things are all about me, well, I've got news for you - they're NOT all about you either. You've shown your true colours yet again, and you've done yourself no favours in your bigotted and reactionary views.

I can assure you that I would much prefer many of those children I come across that are on the CP register to have a male role model such as Townshend than some of the complete misfits they have the misfortune to have. That is speaking as one who has had the unpleasant task of having to know the facts in some cases, and honestly - as Firestorm could probably attest to - they can be literally beyond belief.
