Post-Match Thread and Ratings Peterborough 1-2 Southend United

Grant 8 Slow start but grew in influence and stature as the game went on...our most improved player.
Christophe 7 Poor game by his standard. But great goal by anyones standard!
Moussa 5 Dissapointing display from the moose. Poor distribution and positioning.

Thank God for someone else who thought Anthony Grant had a great game.
He is quite quickly becoming our most influential midfielder. Got stuck in, broke up play and at times was everywhere.

His passing was far better than Christophe's, but Christophe's goal was a peach.

Hope Anthony Grant starts getting the praise he deserves soon.

The game showed total commitment from all the players, I was so impressed with how they dug in and you could see at the end just how much it meant to them.

I've also been one of Franck Moussa's biggest critics, but I must admit, considering he's not playing in his natural position, he literally is growing in stature every game. He's getting stronger, getting far more involved in the games and is probably now displaying the facets that Tilly saw in him. Long may it continue!

Have been saying the same about Grant myself for the last few games, I think a lot of people don't actually appreciate the role he does.

Must have looked a different game from the seats as far as Moussa was concerned. I thought he looked very comfortable on the ball, and really up for the game (gets a 7 from me). I also view Sankofa's contribution a little more favourably (another 7); I'd call him solid but unspectacular (although tbh I'd take "consistently average" over some of the defensive performances we've seen over the last 2 or 3 years).

Other than that, I'd go along with BertieBigBanana's ratings and also add a big 9 for the support today - loud and proud guys. Would have given a 10 btw but the Mildy chant should have been a one-off joke (and was taken as such by Big Steve), seemed disrespectful to me and I can't imagine he'll enjoy hearing that every week.

We said that - it was funny once and it was almost like the final acceptance for Steve, which I think he was both touched and amused by.

I dont think its a song you would constantly want singing at you - lets get behind him now with some good chants and ditch that one.

Dont want to dig Grant out as he does a good job in that Pettefer style role for the team, but sorry, his passing was woeful yesterday. At least 3 times I can remember he needlessly passed it to an opponent in dangerous areas under no pressure, 1 he rolled out of play - again under no pressure and sometimes he was hitting no hope balls into no-mans land.

I do like him though and aside from his passing, have no problem with him - he does have quick feet and can often get out of tight spots nicely and he has clipped a couple of decent balls over and around the left back for Theo to get on to.

For me, thats the biggest problem with out midfield - 3 out of the 4 cannot pass the ball and even then, Moussa isnt great as he likes to keep it simple.

In summary... it will do for now!! Keep it tight in midfield so when we give it away, we get it back and keep winning! :)

For those of us who couldn't be there, how does this new chant go?

Just seen JFC's goal on ITV. Wow.

I wonder what French for 'bicycle kick' is? Un coup-de-pied de velo?

Thought yesterday we looked really solid and well balanced throughout - they had a few chances but you'd expect that from a team pushing for promotion playing at home. Barney and Theo looked really sharp and Moussa is playing with real confidence.
Referee and linesman were about the worst I've seen ( and thats saying something!)
Finally , great to stand on a big terrace again - roll on Hereford (more terracing)

Couldn't agree more Andy. Once was funny and Big Steve took it in good humour but wouldn't want it to be 'his' song. Am sure we can come up with something else for our number one.

My tuppence worth,
Most of our our players bar mildy & robinson appeared to be firing on only 3 cylinders first half hour.
Diabolical penalty decision. We was in the seats directly in front of the dive and that is all it was.
Chasing shadows for the first 20 minutes. Dorian was done at least 3 times in this period. They had us on the rack until jefs acrobatics took the wind out of thier sails.
2nd half, complete turn around. Most of our players decided to arrive and lo and behold we tore the initiative from there grasp and shoved it up thier backsides.
Flukey winner and in all honesty one of the only positive contributions i can recall moussa making. But i guess it was karma for thier penalty.

Ratings...

Mildy 8 Really looking like a top keeper now. Commanded the area
Sankofa 6 His play reminds me of che wilson, consistantly average
Clarke 8 Best of the defence, Pity this is probably the last season with us
Dotty 6 I would say his worst performance with us. Mis timed interceptions and got done for pace a number of times.
Barrett 7 Like dotty got done for pace a few times but unlike dotty has sufc running through his body like a stick of rock and adapted better.
Grant 8 Slow start but grew in influence and stature as the game went on...our most improved player.
Christophe 7 Poor game by his standard. But great goal by anyones standard!
Moussa 5 Dissapointing display from the moose. Poor distribution and positioning.
Robinson 9 Star of the side. Worked tirelessly for 90 minutes ever a threat. A top player who we are very lucky to have for the season.
Barney 9 the 9 is for his 2nd half display which was the best i have seen him play in a southend shirt. Controlled the long hoofs up from the rearguard with consumate skill and brought others in to play.

I personally thought Granty was immense yesterday. He covered acres of ground and was prepared to put his body on the line for our cause. Ok a few wayward passes but he is not alone there!! If AB had been throwing himself around like that people would have been praising him for his Southend roots - maybe Granty has borrowed some of his Blue blood!

Couldn't get to the game and was following it on Premierscores on my phone. Whoever was doing the commentary really put a lot of effort in - the detail matched what they normally do for a premiership game. League one commentaries usually run along these lines:
Match Begins
? gets a free kick
? scores
Match ends!
So well done who ever you were. I felt like I was there.

3 bad passes ! Normally agree with you but for the amount of possession Anthony Grant had and the amount of work he put in I think if he had 3 misplaced passes in dangerous positions that would be a tremendous return.

I cannot believe the generalism that 'his passing was woeful'. I really thought he was the pick of the bunch in midfield and was involved for the entirety of the game. He was literally all over the pitch.

Sometimes I wonder just what a player has to do to please because his passing certainly was not woeful.
