Police to get 10,000 more Taser stun guns

So if these tasers are harmless, why are we not allowed to have them in our own homes to protect ourselves and our loved ones?

That is the point mate....they are not harmless.

According to research over 320 people had died after being hit by a Taser in the United States since 2001

Because many of us may not meet the criteria to join the police force and therefore should not be trusted with such hardware.

Ex-copper on the radio on this very subject said that the police these days are all too keen to go in with batons and CS gas rather than try to calm the situation down with words like they used to.

Back in September 2007 Police were given the go-ahead to use Taser stun guns against children.

The relaxing of restrictions on the use of the weapons came despite warnings that they could trigger a heart attack in youngsters.
Until then, Tasers which emit a 50,000-volt electric shock had been used only by specialist officers as a "non lethal" alternative to firearms.
However, they can now be used against all potentially violent offenders even if they are unarmed.

In fairness, given the speed at which people are whipping knives out these days, I'd be quick to take the easier route myself!

Four reasons for me MK.

First reason. Because we'd all be tempted to taze our mates for a laugh. This would undoubtedly lead to stabbings in certain parts of the country due to people realising that their mate didn't like them very much anyway.

Second reason. Could you honestly own a tazer for longer than 1 year without having found a reason to test it on someone/something?

Third reason. Foreigners would find themselves repeatedly tazed at traffic lights due to their poor driving skills. This would lead them to them ignoring the traffic lights more than they do already and provide them with an adequate excuse.

Fourth reason. Jehovah's witnesses. See second reason.

I was talking to someone whose brother converted to this religion and apparently when you marry, the wife is supposed to be there to answer her husbands every need. Perhaps they are ok after all.

Sorry but that is complete crap mate.

funny though!!

Only relaying what I was told. Or do you mean its complete crap that they may be OK after all?

Very true sir. :D

320 out of how many tasered in total?

Surely the police need more to do their job and protect themselves and us in this day and age? What's the option? Guns? Surely the taser is the better option?

Don't get me wrong Mark, i agree with Tasers instead of guns but it is only fair that as many of the facts are available. And as others have said, why should anyone worry about it unless they have done something wrong.

Unfortunately i do not know how many time Tasers were deployed mate.

My point about the figure of 320 is that it is a meaningless statistic without knowing the percentage of fatalities.
