Restaurant recommendation

Has anyone else tried Maluchis at Tarpots? On the opposite side to the hugely successful and always overcrowded and very noisy Aspera, Maluchis is an ostentatious looking place which you assume is going to be Indian or Turkish from the decor. It's not, the food is beautifully seasonal and as local as possible, it's British food, and high quality, mixed with some Mediterranean influences.

Well worth a try, not too bad on the price front foodwise, but obviously drinks have the usual kind of mark up, especially cocktails. The name incidentally, is a mixture of two of their dogs' names!

Driven past Maluchis many a time. Always thought it was an Italian?!?!

We had thought about going to Aspera, as it had such great reviews. What’s it like then, don’t like noisy restaurants. Sadly a lot of the restaurants around here are fully of noisy, selfish t0ssers.

We’ve been getting takeaways from Castle Spice in Hadleigh.

Very decent Indian food.

There used to be for a few years, a place called Le Gaucherie near Mamma Mia's, that was excellent, as was Renolfs? at Rochford and Slazzors on the sea front, all three gone and not replaced by places of similar calibre.
I am a bit of a creature of habit and Il Pescatore and Pipe of Port are ALWAYS on top of their game.

Massimo, the Pipe of Port! A perfect location to enjoy a seriously good pie whilst sheltering from a missile attack from the east.

Remember Slazzors as well. Not a licensed premises. Bring your own, small corkage charge. Great food. Thanks for the memories!

You mean Slassors of course. I went to school with the twin daughters

Don't forget the Fleur de Provence that was in Alexandra Street. Had some pretty decent French cuisine there before they called time and closed.

One of my all time favourite restaurants. Rod stewart liked it as well.

Was that the place next to the Snooker Club and Gun Shop? Opposite the Top Alex?
Yep

It was a bit of the place in the photo below.

Aspera is incredibly loud, people get very drunk in there so the volume always goes up when people are ****ed anyway! The food is lovely but try and go midweek.

Maluchis is definitely worth a go, have a look at their menus online.

We like Castle Spice, but not been in there for a few years.

Renoufs was brilliant, I remember they were especially good with duck dishes, which were less common back then.

Il Pescatore and the Pipe of Port have always been two of my favourites in Southend. I love the chicken and chestnut pie in PoP!

I used to work at Hotel Renouf when I was at sixth form.

I seem to remember Derek was a duck specialist.

Not the nicest bloke in the world especially if disturbed during World Of Sport on a Saturday afternoon.

It's like The Sugar Hut with overpriced kebabs.
Yes, you're pretty correct, although the food is good! We had it as a delivery a couple of times during lockdown on birthdays. They also give you loads of dips and delicious bread to start.

We've got a '1st time out' table booked for Attica Roma in Rochford tomorrow night. Anyone already tried it?

I have been to Attica a few times and it is very good and a real Italiano. Proper family run (as is Il Pescatore) restaurant. Enjoy.

I went a couple of months back - excellent and they are always fully booked so that in itself should speak volumes.
The staff are very good and very attentive.
Food portions are quite large as well but the food itself was hot and delicious
There was 6 of us and the final bill including drinks I was pleasantly surprised with
