Where's the money gone???

Is RM Jobson in disguise?? :)

That just sums you up TTK you really don't have a clue. Ron Martin is nothing like Vic Jobson thank goodness. Having lived through the nightmare of the Jobson years I find it refreshing to have a chairmen who tries to talk to the fans.
I am still confident he has the best interests of the club at heart unlike Jobson who nearly destroyed the club. Believe it or not TTK this is a difficult time for football clubs with most including Southend on the verge of going into Administration and not all money generated can be used on transfers.

John.. i really want to know this, are you in a relationship with Ron? It does seem odd, that whatever he says, you take as Gospel??

31 players! What was that quote, about lies and statistics?

Sawyer, HRK, Federici, Harding, Milsom, Robinson, Stanislas all on loan for about 18 months in total, and I would imagine that on average we paid 66% of their wages

Those 7 players then cost about the same as 1 full time senior pro for a whole year.

Not if the likes of Harding and Federici were on Championship wages it won't. 66% of their wages is possibly still more than an average league one wage.

Our squad is undeniably bigger than the squad we had in 2005/06, the main difference is that we didn't have five forwards to be injured in 2005/06.

I do however think his breakdown of players is somewhat misleading by including loan players (with the exception of Harding who was signed for 6 months).

I am reassured not by believing that Ron Martin wants what is best for the club, but by the fact that the club's success is in Ron Martin's interest.

What is not said is very often more or equally important to that which is not.

Maybe to be constructive we could consider tabling some issues which are
not in RM's interests, but which are fundamentally in the interests of
supporters, the team or the club as a whole ?

In the middle of the writing Ron says he may do an e-mail Q & A, so e-mail him and see if you get a reply. We can give no answers on here.

Good on you Ron! Like others have said, he can't reveal everything and nor should we expect him to.
The fact he is trying to engage the fans is admirable in my opinion.
The fact is, we've never had it so good, and the first sign of a few blips and suddenly hes branded a villian.
Get real!

Eh?...how do you get to that assumption?

Ironically, Jobson actually saved the club before over seeing its financial demise and he did actually love the club.

Yes I know Jobson saved the club and may well have loved the club but he also felt he was bigger than the club and thought he was right and everyone else was wrong. There was a deep mistrust between supporters and Jobson which went on for years which lead ot some very unpleasat scenes. Decent fans were banned from watched the club they loved for daring to voice the opnion. Give me Ron Martin any day at last he listens to the fans and I have never got the feeling he thinks he is bigger than the club.

Cricko, the fact that after 10 minutes of the blog being on SZ nobody had even made a comment bar me, so don't give me that rubbish!!

I honestly thought the piece was unadulterated Bollocks (thanks James for letting us use that word). It told us absolutely nothing new. I have to admit that i wasn't expecting the full answers re Finances, Stadium, Transfers, Foran, Food Bar inadequacies etc in the first installment, however i also wasn't expecting him to insult our intelligence in saying that buying a forward should mean we will be able to hold the ball up better and therefore relieve our midfield and defence of pressure. Whilst i respect Ron for keeping in touch with the fans via these blogs, the occasional Q & A session and even personal replies to emails, i still do not feel the sun shines out of his @r$e. Cricko, the sooner you stop brown nosing Ron and realize that he has an agenda to make a lot of money for himself and is using the club as a vehicle for doing so, the better.

Yes Ken I hear him loud and clear on that, and to be applauded.

The point is that fans should be allowed to discuss, disect
and analyse his words in order to formulate their opinions and
possible issues they may wish to raise themselves.

Surely that is one of the principal functions of a forum - to
discuss and even argue the toss ?

Anybody know what email address Ron replies too as I'm sure plenty of people would like to drop him a line with some questions...?

Does anyone else find it odd that Ron has seen fit to comment on what is possibly wrong with the team and is inviting punters to examine each position and make their "judgements on the facts available"?

I wonder how he would feel if Tilson started a blog and the first enty was a dissection of Rons attempt to finance the new stadium, perhaps asking shrimpers how they would finance a multi million pound construction project during a global financial downturn?

I agree entirely mate. Not his place to delve into such matters I think, unless this is something he's done with Tilly to defer some heat from the squad.

But that doesn't ring true either to me...

Exactly, he is always pulling these stupid stunts. Like for instance when he did that clip for soccerAM and he looked at the team on the board and said 'well I dont agree with that team'. OR when he sent around an email to fans agreeing that Matt Harrold wasn't good enough.

i think he is perfectly entitled to engage in some light hearted banter.. it is after all his money.. if tilson is that sensitive , or any of the players for that matter, then thay can always refuse to accept his wages and leave..

Good start from Ron with his blog. We would never have had this kind of openess from Vic Jobson. This is only the first week, did you expect answers to everything in one blog.

As for not revealing more details in relation to the wages etc Do people really think it would be a good idea to advertise exactly what our wage bill is on the interent where all and sundry can read it? Like teams we might be trying to buy players from or teams who might wish to buy ours? That would be pretty goddamn dumb.

I suppose someone will say I'm just kissing Ron's backside now, but believe me I think every chairman should be treated with a degree of suspision and the questions asked of him on this board are good ones. But if you think other chairman even attempt to be this open with their club's supporters - keep dreaming. Ron is our chairman, under his tenure we've become more secure, had good times (and i'm sure they'll be more) and gained permission for the new stadium we so badly need. He's our chairman, so I'll give him my backing until he does something wrong.

UTB.

Well I think it's good to have a chairman who is interested in football. As you quote Ron saying "well i don't agree with that team" he didn't stop Tilly picking it did he? Unlike say the Hearts chairman who interferes all the time if we are to believe the press. Shows he's a football fan surely? We all have our opinions but he's not forcing them on Tilly.

I appreciate your point, maybe Tilson doesn't give a monkeys. I also think that overall RM has been a brilliant chairman. I just think that those examples give off the impression that he is one to meddle in team affairs. Regarding the email response to another fan about Foran, I appreciate his honesty but I am surprised that he discloses to a fan that it is all Tilson's decision and that he disagrees with it (as if this wouldn't be reported on a messageboard) At this moment in time, I'd expect the management team to pull together, not to break ranks so easily.
