Would have thought it would be really lush by now because it had plenty of, ahem, manure put on it early in the season, courtesy of our players. :smiles:

But, seriously, I think a lot of it is down to the weather. My lawn has hardly grown since November which is very different to the last few years when I've had to cut it a couple of times through the winter and it is looking a bit sorry for itself and my lawn hasn't had 23 people running all over it for 90+ minutes five or six times a month for the last couple of months. I have no doubt that the hard and wet weather together with a lot of rearranged fixtures being shoe-horned in hasn't helped and it isn't looking as good as previous years, however, before we criticise, it is nowhere near as bad as the infamous sandpit at Col U was.

True, but if it hasn't been relaid during the off season, then it won't be in good nick. They usually take the top layer off the pitch & start again.

I think the process skims the grass off flush with the ground, leaving the roots to regenerate so that the ground is still 'held' together. The ground is then re-seeded, to give a thick lush regrowth. The skimming process would be done by a specialist company who have the kit and would make a charge.

Who better to comment on the pitch than "grassroots" !

Compared to the pitch just been seeing at Notts County ours is like a snooker table.

Was going to say exactly the same thing, what a disgrace that was! There really ought to be minimum standards and fines levied if clubs don't reach them. Where was the absolutely shockingly muddy excuse for a pitch that we played last season, or maybe the one before? It had ruts and all, ours really is NOT that bad!

The lads who come out at half time don't help they look like they are on a care in the community programme. All they do is find a decent bit of turf then smash seven bells out of it with their forks.

Agree completely. We watched them the other night and 2 were wandering round the South penalty area missing the divots that needed replacing and just forking odd areas as they strolled about. Forking useless. Sack them.

...........not unless they have received previous written warnings..............or we'll have another court case on our hands!

Know the groundstaff try the best with the tools and materials they are given. Understand that until recently they have had no fertiliser, seed etc. They work hard and are just not appreciated by management, also they have not been paid on time for last eighteen months and still waiting all of last months money, Febs is due tomorrow!!!!.
