Breaking News Season Tickets - now on sale

All done, happy to pay the extra. For those wondering, I was able to move my seats to a couple unassigned. You can wait until July but if you find a spare seat you fancy that isn't taken up by a season ticket, you can buy that.

Will renew but will wait to put on the next credit card bill as have had a very expensive last few weeks.

Not overly happy about the increase whilst pleased to have an explanation although there is no mention on how expensive we where for this league beforehand.

Also although it will not effect me I feel increasing the OAP discount each year is a bit harsh.

For those wanting to spread the payment out here’s how you do it yourself at a much cheaper price than Klarna

1. Apply for a credit card with an interest free offer for 12+months and set up a direct debit to pay the minimum each month. You can find offers here https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/best-0-credit-cards/

2. Open a regular savings account account
Saffron currently have one available where you can get 8% interest (max £50 per month), Nationwide have one at 6.5% (max £200 a month) but you can find more options here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6576962/the-top-regular-savers-discussion-thread/p1
You’ll need to pay in 1/12th of the cost each month (so £35 if you’re purchasing one adult ticket).

3. Wait for the credit card to arrive and then purchase the season ticket on your new credit card. Don’t use the credit card for anything else!

4. After 12 months if you’re putting in £35 a month into a regular saver you’ll have £420 in there (plus whatever interest you’ve earned). You can now use this to pay off your credit card in full. You’ll want to make sure you pay it off in full before the introductory offer expires so make a reminder on your phone to do so in good time.
The Zones financial expert, I say you change your tag.

Got any thoughts on what the best savings account for interest is at the moment?

Think 5% is perfectly acceptable in the current climate, also agree with removing the free under 8s as I know of people who did "buy" one exactly so they wouldn't have someone sitting next to them!

Does anyone know if disabled people get a discount, particularly wheelchair bound supporters? I note that carers are free, but, in some cases I would dispute as to whether some people actually need a "carer", and suggest that any discount is better applied to the affected person. I know it's a touchy subject, and, of course there will be people who absolutely rely on a carer to be able to attend, and feel it would be more fair for both to receive a discount rather than giving a total "freebie" when someone might not actually need a carer. Apologies if that comes over a bit harsh, I kind of know what I'm trying to say but not expressing it terribly well!

I do agree about the monthly payment option being a good idea and will ask the question.

You are Martin Lewis and I claim my £5

I totally agree with you, the person I go with is disabled and I could get the free carer ticket, but I won’t as it’s just not fair, I will pay my way like I have done for the past 30 years of being a season ticket holder.

So they haven't sorted out the North Bank for us then? Still housing away fans in there surely there was another option? I will be renewing but will be moving my seat from family bit of west

Spare a thought though for the dustman/street cleaner on minimum wage doing a great job!!

Then have another think about the Doc on £150k!!!

The dustman/street cleaner may not be emergency services but it was not that long ago we was clapping these folk on our doorsteps!!
One thing that occurred to me looking at a post above is that many of the emergency services have little choice but to do shift work and so will not be able to make all the games. I work in IT and can choose whether to do a job that requires shift work, many emergency services staff can't so easily.
The binman/street cleaner, whilst both poorly paid and a vital cog in society, can at least get the full value out of the season ticket.

Cant see its been mentioned anywhere but looks like season ticket holders get Happy Hour drink pricing before matches (£1 off pints bought between 12:30pm and 1:30pm on 3pm kick-offs, and between 5:30pm and 6:30pm for 7:45pm kick-offs)

It's not 20% off Nandos but it's better than a kick in the bollocks

I am surrounded by Ipswich Town supporters in my Village. They have an option to have a rolling monthly payment spreading the cost over 12 months. They get a window during the close season to either cancel or continue. Seems a good system to me., no idea how complex it would be to manage though. Pretty sure they pay a little extra on top of their ticket as well.

Ha, I’m no expert and this is pretty basic stuff but I don’t want to derail this thread either.

No payment plan will mean no ST I'm afraid.
See below for how to do your own payment plan and earn interest instead of pay interest. With a payment plan you’d just be paying for convenience

I'm a bit puzzled by the people complaining about discounts for emergency services / military / veterans. Southend isn't a traditional military town so the uptake won't be massive, particularly as it is very hard for service personnel to resettle in the area. Trust me, there is a reason I settled in Lincs when I left the RAF.

If anyone really wants the discount I guess they could go to the Afco.

I guess in an ideal world all discounts would be means tested however the admin of that would just be ridiculous and no doubt would lead to an outcry of pensioners being penalised.

Why don't we all be appreciative that the club is in a position to offer discounts and not jealous of those that qualify for them

You'd have to pay tax on the saving's interest if you earn over the tax threshold.

Renewed and moved to North bank, out of interest I don't remember wether I clicked collect or by email, I thought was by email but didn't actually receive the tickets? Did anyone else have this? Guess they can't send out the ticket until they know fixtures

9 years serving in her majesty’s Royal Air Force, earning a pittance being sent away from my family, doing 6 month tours of Afghanistan. Working every hour expected by the force with often no extra pay or perks. Yes I chose to do it and I never once complained about the money or conditions and when I had enough I decided to leave.

The club have been kind enough to allow in the past veterans to qualify for the Emergency Services discount and I am glad it is now recognised as a separate category, my fellow veterans and serving members can qualify for the discount they deserve.

I will be renewing at my veteran qualified discount. Even though I now earn a hell of a lot more now than I did when I was in. It’s the least veterans/serving members and emergency service people do for this country!

Hats off to the club for all the great work they do for the Emergency Services and the Armed Forces, they always do a fantastic job for remembrance.
