Don't get me wrong, I like Kevan Hurst, but surely someone else must be capable of taking a decent corner? His delivery was appalling on Saturday but he took every single set piece.

Mix it up a bit FFS.

They have been bad for a while, he will go through a better patch, but maybe that will come with letting someone else take them for a while. He has a good cross from open play.

He shouldn't take the inswingers. The outswingers look very dangerous and we've scored from a good few of his set-pieces this season. I particularly enjoyed Cheltenham away. But on Saturday the inswingers were into the keeper's arms every time. We need to change it up a bit I feel.

Why is nobody standing on the keeper making it difficult for him tho?

Exactly this for my mind.

They havent been too bad but hard to live up to Hall who is the best set piece taker ive seen in my time as a southend fan.

Who else is technically good enough to take set pieces on a regular basis - thats the worry. Timlin can't pass wind

You're right we're not exactly blessed with dead-ball specialists. I'd say Martin or Leonard if they're on the pitch but it's unlikely that they'll be on the pitch together with Hurst. What about Clohessy? He can whip in a good ball. Hurst's set-pieces were dreadful on Saturday but to be fair we have scored a few goals from set-pieces this season (mostly Cresswell).

All the set pieces have been poor; without Fred being on the field who would take (i.e. shoot) a direct freekick? The corners are either catching practice or if challenged falling over/whistle blowing for the gk/ref.
Maybe Ryan Leonard, again if selected, should have a go as he has a strong delivery; ditto David Martin.
I also hate the all the players are pulled back when we are defending a corner.

Good technique but tbf the good crosses he puts in are lucky. I'd say Martin should give free kicks a go, Timlin on corners. Give it a go atleast. I think we could try a back post header back into the danger zone for someone to attack, if that makes sense. We've dont it a couple of times and it corses mayhem in the box.

That's one of the maddest things I've read on here ever.

I would try Clohessey with the corners, if we need to leave someone back, maybe Woodyard or Straker (or Leonard if he's playing)? Also I still think its wrong that we never leave anyone up when defending a corner - just means the ball comes straight back in the area and we're on the backfoot again. Beginning to wonder if Sturruck does very little in the way of set-piece work in training now, corners + free kicks seem so poor this season in comparison with last 2 years.
