That assumes that it was the players fault that they didn't all get on all the time. A number of different managers over a short time with different ideas of what they wanted will have contributed massively to it, with no single group of players as such. It sounds like Brown used to sound out the character of players he was looking to sign, presumably with a view to them needing to get on with each other to create a cohesive team. Whether subsequent managers have, or if they had different ideas of what they wanted, who knows?
