Yes, as part of the transfer agreement for Harold Halse in 1908 ... Halse scored 91 goals in our first season and his prowess in front of goal prompted Manchester United to pay £350 for his services in March 1908. He went on to play for England and won the League Championship and FA Cup with United before spells with Aston Villa, Chelsea and Charlton Athletic.
 
That was a fairly hefty fee for an ameteur!
Could we swap him for Rooney (taking inflation into account?)
