Southend: Real ale desert

Heard good things about it from a mate who went there the other day.

Good range of ales and they have Belgian beers aswell!

Masons is a bit of a beer paradise. Was in there last night, 9 real ales on tap, about 6 real ciders, several craft beers on tap plus a Belgian beer list. About 8 wine choices and I understand they have been carefully selected. Limited spirits, no lagers. Brilliant if you are into quality beer and a chat as there is no loud music or game machines. Owned by Mark who owns George's brewery who went for a pub he would like to drink in himself (which he does). Also dog friendly.

Mawson's rather than Masons (in case anyone is searching for the place and can't find it).

We went into The Peterboat on Saturday lunchtime, first time for about 20 years and I was impressed by the selection of real ales AND the great bar staff who knew what was available. I will be going back.

We went in there for a quick Sunday lunchtime pint back in September-also for about the first time in 20 years and I was also similarly impressed.

Trust it will be serving again by the end of April?

It has not now shut for refurbishment as the owners/builders are involved in the old Bell Hotel? (bathroom showroom) by Leigh Hill that was empty for decades. Anyway that building collapsed during the night in December and so the work, and costs there are huge overruns; consequence is Mayflower refit is postponed if not canned.

I keep thinking this thread is about a real ale dessert...like Apple Pie & Old Bishops Treacle Finger or Badger Botherer Ice Cream.

You may have something there! apple pie with ale soaked dried fruit might be worth having a tilt at. Or in a fruit cake rather than using tea?
