Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0 - 1 Barnet

injuries- embargo - Uncle Ron. Those 3 things will cost us a play off place. Sandat my MotM tonight. Barnet poor (the one on ones were our mistakes not good play by them). Didn’t take advantage of ‘son of Mark’ Beard being on a yellow- Powell or Bridge should’ve been at him to get that second yellow. Fingers crossed for more striking options on Tuesday. #martinout

I thought 1st 10 mins we started lively, but as the game progressed we were like a slow puncture, slowly getting flat & deflated.
Got out of jail in 1st half, when they hit the bar, & within a bonkers 10-15secs, we cleared (3? ) off the line.
Bottom line being, when we're down to a 17 yr old being our main striker, things aren't going to be easy.
Such a shame with a great attendance tonight, which with the result & next weeks cold weather returning, will probably be around 5,700 on Tues.

Not good enough tonight! We huffed and puffed but was not good enough all over the pitch and I'm not blaming hamstring and other hamstring but they are killing us with there unavailability to get fit! Sandat looks out of his depth and really did look like a 17 year old kid out there! I'm sure if it had been bridge going through on goal he would have stayed on his feet and scored or another of the senior players! Blondy did well but still should have done better with the goal! We need steve Arnold back out there.! Unfortunately I can't see much changing Tuesday as we have no other fit strikers or want away lopata.

Have never seen such a clear red card not given, that was a disgrace, i was bang in line with it in the West and that ref cheated us out of a win. Barnet with 10 men wouldve sat back no doubt, giving our midfield a chance to join the attacks. As it stood, the gap between midfield and strikers was too big and as our strikers werent able to do anything with the ball it came straight back at us.
The lads played some great football, i love the way tgey keep on trying back heels etc and dont have that fear factor.
Barnet were utter filth, lumpers of the ball in every dept, a team of average spoilers.

Ron Martin youve screwed another season right up again. Referee you need to refund me.

Not match related, but... Would Lopata go to Notts after Brunt's experience there last season?

I bet Sheff Utd are raging as well - surely they had a huge sell on clause...
Different management team at Notts , it'll be interesting to see where lopata goes , Bring back Elvis LOL Hobson needs a new contract otherwise he'll go on a free, well done Ron

A frustrating and disappointing evening in a match from which I felt we at least deserved a point. As so often this season though, we lacked a cutting edge up front against a robust Barnet, prepared to use their physicality whenever we did start to apply a little pressure, and pack the box with bodies if we came anywhere near their goal. The lack of attacking power is no criticism of young Henry Sandat because I thought he worked hard but was subjected to a lot of manhandling by their defence. I don’t think I’m being biased when I say we played the better football in what was a generally scrappy game but were almost caught on the break on a few occasions. Blondy thwarted a couple of the breakaways until the one where he couldn’t hold on to the initial shot and Kanu was first to the rebound and stuck it in the net. That was game over really because we didn’t have enough about us to seriously threaten their goal. I think we were victims of a smash and grab where Barnet were determined not to let us score but were always hopeful they would nick a goal on the break and that’s how it worked out. Oh well, bring on Chesterfield.

Sad news about opata and, yes, RM should not have defaulted in respect of paying the players on time, but I sense from what Kev has said Kacper’s agent has been waiting in the wings to pick up a lucrative fee for himself and the breach of contract has played right into his hands. Kacper will probably be in the squad of one of our playoff rivals in a week or two.

Injuries to the strike force is hurting us big time.We lack any cutting edge and our play is to slow.Against big players you need quick ball to turn them around. We are easy to defend against put 2 or 3 defenders on Bridge and our attack breaks down.

I actually enjoyed watching us tonight and thought we played pretty well. We never gave up and looked to get the ball wide to Bridge whenever possible. Yes, we lack a cutting edge, but I was impressed by Sandat's all round game. He has a bit of everything and I likes the way he came short and then drifted into the channels; generally mixing it up. At this stage of his career, he's way ahead of the likes of Jason Williams and Matt Rush who we've had in previous seasons.

I though Cav was sublime in the first half whilst Husin was a passenger. Second half, Husin stepped things up, but we can't keep carrying players for 45 minutes.
Kensdale was mightily impressive tonight, driving out of defence with the ball looking to set up attacks. He's come on so much this year.

Powell again disappointed. His runs lack intelligence, and if we want automatic promotion next season, he is an impact player at best.
Wes Fonguck really looked like he didn't want to be out there when he came on with 5 minutes to go! I've seen more life in a snail. He'd be one I'd be looking to move on in the summer if we can.

I liked the look of the Barnet centre forward Kabamba. Very mobile and led the line superbly.

If we can get some consistent help for Miley in the midfield for next season, plus a couple of decent strikers who can play 40 plus games a season we will have a chance. For the moment, after the stresses of the last few weeks I'm just content that we still have a club to support.

I thought we played pretty well to be fair, we just missed a big lump at the back and a big lump at the front, both of which they have. We desperately need a version of Cardwell or Hyde who can stay fit for more than 2 games at a time. We played the better football, just had no one to finish it off. One of those games. Move on.

Pony.

Even before I knew the Kacper news, there was no way we would get a result with that line up.

For all the idiots in the south upper tonight digging out Blondy, he's not the reason we lost.

A front line of a 17 year old kid (albeit with potental) and an annonomous Powell meant we were never gonna score.

Personally, I'd have kept sandat on and subbed Powell.

The Bench said it all.

Depending on how bad the injuries are to the front line, I can see this season drifting away and ending about 10th.

We need our sick note forwards back and firing again.

As for Lopata, I could never understand the love in anyway - we move on.

I agree , we will never make the play offs with the forwards we have now. We have flattered to deceive for to long and are now being found out.

Barnet deserved there victory tonight! We was doing just fine without lopata so he can do one!! It was Steve Arnold who made lopata look good as he's the one who brings the confidence out in our defence! He is a commanding figure in our team, the sooner he's back the better

It was always a goal in it game. We had a few chances in or around the box, but it didn’t drop. Blondy made a couple of good saves but my opinion spilt one he should have caught for the goal. Problems at both ends of the pitch, but those in between looking good. Mention for Sandat who looked like a tidy player.
