Echo News Southend United boss Kevin Maher on his pursuit of new players

That’s fine, don’t rush…. BUT don’t expect to be successful. The present squad, with a very few exceptions, is woefully abject in both talent and effort. Unless wholesale changes are made soon we will be conference south next season; the season after, who knows(?) but I won’t bet on promotion or survival…

Where do people think we are going to find these players? There are unlikely to be many suitable free agents out there and we cannot afford to pay transfer fees.

Perhaps the answer lies in these bold claims made a few weeks ago by SVC. Point 2 seems particularly relevant.

"1. A pundit who got you a CEO which you didn't have for 5 years. The alternative if Tomwasn't there? I dread to think.

2. A pundit who has a recruitment head ready who's knows every player in the nation( six hundred Conference players watched, analysed and picked out to fit what we need, now, today) who can be extricated from their clubs to bring in quality. He walked into Grimsby in pre season, the oldest squad in the division and brought 8 recommended in. They are TOP of the league.

3. A pundit who's managed to persuade the owner to take a back sead in order to not inflame a tense situation. Likewise a supporter base ready to turn at any moment.

4. A pundit who can speak to anyone in this sport within 30 minutes and who's built relationships with clubs over years, many of whom have already committed to helping us as and when.

5. A coaching trio who we had to sell the club vision to, none of whom were in a hurry to leave their clubs without hearing from a football man that a structure would be in place.

6. A pundit who's had 300 emails from scouts, managers, recruitment specialists, players all wanting to get involved.

7. A pundit who's been to 500 clubs at home and abroad learning and understanding how clubs are run, their strictures, things they've done well and not. Invited in by all. There is nobody in English football who's been into more clubs to learn about structure more than I. No one. Ask around the industry!!!

8. A pundit who has only ever offered 3 clubs help and delivered for each. Delivered. I gave zero interest getting **** from random fans of clubs I have no connection to, it's hard enough getting **** from those you do!

9. A pundit who's given you more clarity and information as to what the stench is at Southend, relaying that to the lever so that there's a fighting chance of rid of the chancers, schemers and malintents at the club. Without identifying them it's not relegation you'd have to worry about, it's bankruptcy.

19. A pundit who's had "yes, we'll help" from every club he's contacted rather than the "Southend? Hahaha" that is the image your club has inflicted on itself with toxic chancers who've walked through the door

We will only get loans in now to the end of the season. With the January transfer window round the corner I can't see many clubs loaning players to 4th from bottom national league club..... league 1/2 clubs and spl clubs will have first picks. Hope I'm wrong and we can get few loans through the door quick but I have feeling will be playing the waiting game unfortunately.

What the **** is your problem?

Good people are trying to turn this long term disaster around and all you can do is dig.

I get the impression you want them to fail.

Why don't you go one?

why? I make him right, it's Stan that made these promises and set the expectations, so why would people not question that now?

the squad is awful, Stan said they have identified where and also there was a "basket" of players ready to go, recruitment people ready to step in etc ... then next thing we get 2 players from Darren curries contacts and then silence (apart from the admissions from kev we are nowhere near signing anyone - whilst losing every week)

totally appreciate these things take time, but you also can't blame people for being anxious when the outline from a few weeks back indicated things were ready to go and would be moved on quickly.

I mean, SURELY this week we have to sign players, but also been saying that last couple of weeks but seems like its not likely. cant see anything but defeats until big changes are made by which time may be too late.

I am getting sick of these continuous digs by people who have no idea of what is going on at the club, it's the same names every time and it's blindingly obvious that they have an agenda that's shrouded in negativity without any regard to reality. I have no doubt whatsoever those same people will claim any future success was achieved in spite of the efforts of those at the club.

You're going to look a bit silly this week.

Ah! You're the guy on twitter who was my personal cheerleader for the last 2 months. Thank you for your support.

Everything I promised is being discharged.

Everything.

That's everything.

And for people at the back, one more time, everything.

I was more pointing out I can understand why people have the right to question it after the expectations that were set is that things were going to happen “quickly”.

Quickly is relative of course, but don’t think can blame the frustrations of the fans as we stare down the barrels of relegation to the national south!

hoping there are interesting, exciting and more positive times ahead, starting this week! :)
