Was really excited last night but part expected this. Am confident Tom and Stan will negotiate this to a point that they can either agree or be professional in walking away if an agreement can’t be reached that both think is right.

As others have said we have only heard one version from Stan (which is very professionally stated) but Tom’s style isn’t to go public on these types of issues and until further talks happen we shouldn’t make any assumptions about who is in the wrong (if anyone).

And for those trashing Ron, he is payrolling this and we don’t know what Stan’s demands are - he could want a role that runs everything and a salary of £5m. Whilst I exaggerate and really want Stan on board I’m not footing the bill or owning the club and Tom might need to persuade him to find more cash if it’s beyond the budget.

Fingers crossed for a good outcome next week.
Ron Martin payrolling something? Now there's a new one.

This is the problem with having a running commentary on the situation nothing is finalised yet and the deal/appointment is not dead. I get the need for openness but we do have to remain professional in business and I think the club are worried this is turning into a circus.

Nobody needs to get deflated or anything at the moment.
100% agree

Will definitely get strung up for this, but I've had a creepy feeling about this whole thing. What Stan says makes sense, but a lot of it is greatest hits from Shrimperzone, so of course people are going to lap it up.

Southend fans are desperate people right now, looking in all directions for a way out of this. Maybe Stan can help facilitate this, but I can't help feeling that the enthusiasm from the zoom calls was probably taken to the negotiation table when it came to discussing a role at the club.

To be clear: nothing has changed yet, no corners have been turned, I'd feel a lot better if we began getting the structure Stan has talked about, including Stan in a role, delivering results, then negotiate for what that role means and costs going forward following measurable positive change.

If it really means that much for Stan to do the job and help the club that shouldn't be out of the question. Implement change, turn the results around, move us up the league, then talk renumeration and expansion of role.

However does he make ends meet?
Well quite (there again your Prem higher earners will get that and more a week...) - my point being what we can/do offer (prior to any of the now famous financial gymnastics) may seem very low dependent on your start point/expectations. So the beginning gap might be somewhat large and it shouldn't necessarily be a surprise..

I think Stan offers hope of better times to come.
He is a Southend icon, and more than the managerial team as good as it potentially is, having a hero on board makes everyone feel better.
Ron and TL need to make this happen more than just about anything else in the last two years.

Thanks for all the hard work Stan it's been a breathe of fresh air and hugely appreciated but I don't think we should pay over the odds for Stan's 'contact book'

If it works out great, if not we have a great structure in place to move forward from here. Let's just get behind the team tomorrow and see what plays out.

Surely this is part and parcel of any job negotiations?

I think two elements concern me though

  1. Assumption from my point of view is this is a structure recommended and implemented under Stans guidance. Without him involved who finishes the build out of this?
  2. If Stan does walk away then we do not have a “Director of Football Operations” immediately to hand and I assume with just a Head Coach and not a manager that means we have a gap in responsibilities that requires immediately plugging?
For this model to work..... sufc will definitely need a director of football to identify and bring in players which are required for the head coach to coach. Unless we revert back to type with the responsibility goes onto the manager to identify and sign players. Which I think Ron will probably do to save putting his hand in his pocket.

In essence it will be the same as when phil brown and previous managers were in charge, where the manager gets the final say in who is signed.

Ron Martin payrolling something? Now there's a new one.
He does every single month. The man has many many faults, but the idea he is taking money OUT of the club rather than putting IN is worthy of the worst type of FB misinformation. So you might have more joy posting this observation there.

Of course he may yet get a payday- but until this point the hard cash has been flowing in one direction only.

Didn't figure the Chairman as a saint.

My point exactly. It did not take Stan to point out the obvious. Or maybe it did because assured what Ron Martin knows about football would not fill the back of a fag packet
Were any of the 3 from Stan’s list? (Currie was close to being appointed before MM was and Maher and Bentley were known to the club and may have been in the club’s radar previously as well).

I very much doubt this is about Ron not being able to afford Stan, or pay him what he wants. The amount of money ******* on the likes of Cox, Kightly, Ridgwell, Oxley, Kiernan etc let alone various managers and their entourages. This would be an investment. It’s surely not about that ..
True. But this was on players. And one prays we have learned that lesson all be it we were in L1 and dreaming about the Championship. Look at what we pay managers, CEOs etc its very different. That said you are right Ron could find a way. I don't think Tom is the sort who would get too bent out of shape if another member of the management team was paid more than him for example. Nonetheless you would expect a negotiation.

I would imagine the roles and responsibilities is the big point.

But none of us knows- you see we have enough transparency to be up in arms but not enough to know what the problems actually are. A little bit of knowledge is a very dangerous thing.

Firstly I have to say SVC has done an outstanding job and has delivered on putting a credible team together that will hopefully begin to turn around the teams fortunes. He didn’t have to do any of this but has worked tirelessly to try and make a difference.

But what is going on now - disappointing as it is to most - surely has not come as a surprise to many.

Let’s not try to read into all of this and come up with our own conclusions.
Although he has tried to be honest and transparent we all know in the world of business something’s need to remain closed and private and none of us actually know what is going.

The one thing from the call last night was POSITIVITY” - let’s not lose that positivity

In that you will not be alone (in fact I will join you in that tent). But this Ron is taking money OUT of the club drivel frankly insults our intelligence..

He is of course reputed to be paying himself a salary for his management services but I've never suggested that's he is taking money out of the club as such, though he's clearly hanging on for his big FF payday.
