The main thing is we still have a team which will at times compete. If we want to compete all of the time IMHO we need need 3 more quality players, a CB,MF & a Striker..................Any news on the trialists or are we we going to have to hope we get it right in the loan market ?

Whilst I love to watch the attacking side, we conceded too much last year, which was down to a misfiring midfield and not just back 4 errors. The back four dont operate on their lonesome. So with Mc Laughlin, Mc Glashen and Wordsworth, who all like going forward, its worth thinking about the issue that none of them can defend or tackle a blancmange?

------------------- Oxley----------------
---------White-Barrett-Thompson
Demetriou------------------------Coker
------------Lenny-------Timlin----------
----------------Wordsworth-----------
----------------Ranger-----------

Id be optimistic if that's how we lined up Come the first game, add one or two for the bench and maybe replace white and I'd be over the moon.

Definitley add one to the team, tough enough with 11 on the field let alone 10!

No it's not ideal at all - but personally I think that there is a strong core to that bench in Smith, White, Atkinson, Mooney and O'Neil.

I agree that we do need more signings but I think the additional 8 that you suggest will be too many.

I'd personally like to see 2 more experienced CBs in pretty damned quick, plus 2 more forwards.

Bridge and Williams are now at an age where I think they should now either step up or you have to question whether they will have a long-term career in Football.

Anyway, it's sunny outside, I am about to buy three Season Tickets for my family so I will try and stay positive.

That is not a strong bench in any shape or form - need at least another five signings IMO and then the usual two or three loan players to top up. Thread bare at the moment and season almost upon us. So much for training together pre season - not ideal this.
Phil has said he wants a smaller squad this year, 20 plus 2 or 3 loaness .thats a lot less than you have

I thought Mooney had good games against both Newcastle and Colchester. I'd go for him over Ranger at least for the league match and have a look at Ranger for the cup game. Not yet sure that Jack Bridge is read so I'd play Atkinson in the league match and, as with Ranger, have another look at Bridge in the cup.

This starting eleven for me.
Oxley
Demetriou Barrett Sokilok Coker
Maglashan Lenny Bridge McLaughlin

Mooney Cox

Me too, except we all know Brown will start Atkinson.

For a very some good reasons. Tough opening game means Atkinson over the inexperienced Bridge. Two wingers means you need more defensive cover in the middle. Lenny plays better with Atkinson as our results prove.

Jack Bridge is a very promising talent, so lets hope PB handles him the same way as JP (with a longer contract) He should certainly be allowed to develop and not be put under pressure to be our new Jack Payne.

Brown will start with Atkinson, although I don't know why. Just don't see what he brings to the side. I really like the idea of Bridge and Leonard in the middle, with McGlashan and McLaughlin out wide, with Mooney/Ranger (when fit) and Cox up front. I don't think there would be many better attacking line ups in our league. However, we might/probably be a bit exposed defensively!

I am sure to that PB will start with Willo instead of Jack.
The Col U game didn't show much other than Demitriou and McG and Cox are welcome additions.
It also showed that like last season we can start well, get a lead AND then just get bogged down and stuck back in our own half with little possession;- the half time talk MUST be changed!
We were a tad lucky not to concede to a very poor Col Ewe AND if we had we might have gone headless chicken mode which we saw too much of last season.
AND PB made his changes TOO late again in the game to give the subs a reasonable run out or rest the likes of AB.
So, in summary, some good and some same old stuff that needs working on.
If PB does start with the line up including Thommo, Willow and Mooney then I hope we have no fresh injuries and he uses Socks, Jack and Nile in the final 30 minutes.
Will PB be in the D.Box or is he allowed on the TV gantry?

Massimo, what's with all these abbreviations on the players' names? You're starting to sound like mrsblue. Socks - We used to have a cat called that.:winking:
