Stephen Gateley dies

When my daughters were 9 and 8 they won a competition to meet Mel B. It was the younger one's 8th birthday. Mel B pulled out giving no notice so my wife and kids arrived at the studio with no celeb to meet, but Tanya Bryers, the presenter, who had kids of her own, made sure she had a special day with a cake, balloons etc.. Anyway, they were invited back the next week to meet Stephen Gateley to make up for the disappointment. He was really nice to them, chatted with them, listened to them and made them feel special. Today, I was driving my elder daughter, now 18, to university when we heard the news. It was a real shock and she was quite deeply affected by it. When I read some of the off-colour jokes on here, when the young man isn't even in the ground yet, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Know what you mean, met him a few times and he was always unfailingly a gent. Always time for the fans and none of the big "I am" that so many celebs seem to have.
