Street Crime UK: Southend v Derby 1994

I recall a home game against Wolves on a Friday night in the 80s, and looking down Fairfax Drive from the Northwest corner to see the loveable scamps basically wrecking everything in their path. I were only a lad at the time, and my old man wisely ushered us home quickly at the final whistle. Sadly, Father wasn't there to guide me home after the Derby pitch invasion and a few of us encountered some of our East Midlands friends on Pier Hill after the game. It was a lively discussion, but I think we got our point across.

Wasn't this when a tall short haired fellow sent a rocket (firework)through the night sky into the away end? I was standing right next to him when he did it

Canvey Cup match away. I was on a bus leaving the ground when a brick was thrown through a window.

They must have seen their reflections and thought it was their evil twins or someone stealing their souls. YER LIKE DEGS!?

Take it you made it pretty apparent where your allegiances lie then? Were there many other of our lot in their end.

I cant think of anything worse. I've been in the home end at a few of our away games coz I've had mates who support the opposition. Never enjoyed it but Orient would be hell. The whole reason I go to that sh*thole is to point out just how much I hate them with a 1000+ like minded Shrimpers.

Nah I was being a good boy, raised my arm in the air when the Southend fans were singing and that was it!! We only had 500 tickets which is why I ended up in the home end, there was a few other Southend fans near where me and my brother were sitting and they joined in when it kicked off.

Generally was a horrible experience and not one I intend to repeat.

Not for the only time, once vs Lincoln it went shooting down the middle of the pitch and ended up in the South Bank net, and another when the dozy ejit aimed too high and it hit the underside of the roof and came back down amongst the North Bank faithful

I have been to a few away games in my day, the worst I can remember is WBA in a midweek game in the mid 90's, when we equalised very late in the game. Punches bein gthrown after the game as we walked back to the coach, mostly aimed at dads with their kids, then the old bill having ago at the dads for not walking quickly enough.
I also remember the so call Exeter game, but missed all the trouble before the game but remember the stone throwing after the game.

I remember that midweekgame at WBA early 90's not allowed in the pub b4 the game as they had trouble with oxford on the saturday & on the other side of the main road in the car park after game it was pretty nasty, also remember the saturday game at exeter (cant remember score as totally wasted) there were exeter on one side of the road & blues on the other with plod in the middle there was a stand off for a bit then it just went..also plymouth away many years ago they were ripping up seats & throwing them at us only to realise we had exeter fans in our end as they wanted to have a go,we had a police escort out through the home end where there was a huge pile of broken seats at the back of the stand..swansea a few years ago after beating them with 8 men was scary as we had to walk back to the station followed by a big group of welsh skinheads but managed to lose them somehow.

I was at that WBA game I remember my old man got knocked over in the street after the game, some tossers were running through the crowd just barging into people!

Yep, i was there and remember it well .. Brett Angell (the REAL one !!!) had equalised in something like the 94th minute despite being at least 5 yards offside .. suffice to say the locals were not happy bunnies

Its quite good to see the fat Indian Derby guy throw one of the worst punches ever recorded and then get CS gassed in the face. Funny how Derbys bully boys didnt want to know after that.

Correction, he was a turk.

1988 Bolton 1st day of the season at home. Very nasty atmosphere all day. There were a lot of Bolton fans hell bent on trouble the whole day. At half time the Police paraded the dogs in front of the Bolton fans but amazingly at the end of the game the police were nowhere to be seen and the Bolton fans charged across the pitch towards the North Bank. A lot of people were panicing but Brains took the fight back to them and must have laid about 4 or 5 of their boys out and the the rest of us felt brave enough to go onto the pitch and chase them back before the Police arrived. A couple of Bolton fans got into the North bank thinking that loads more were coming but were left on their own and got a real hammering that they fully deserved and wouldn't forget in a while.

A lot of games against Brighton around the turn of the century were very nasty and for a couple of years they were our main rivals.

Didn't Brains just run full pelt at them with his arms outstretched and "clothes line" 4 of them straight out, 2 on either arm :D .. all joking aside i seem to remember the Southend fans got a lot of bad press in The Echo for running on the pitch to meet the Bolton, though the way i saw it was if they hadn't then there would've been absolute carnage in the North Bank, fair play to our game lads i say

I remember an away game vs Brighton, when the Brighton supporters done a pitch invasion at the end in protest of their board. Brains got on the pitch and they though the was going to join in the protest, instead he decked a few of them.

I remember getting chased through the high street in Exeter by a few of their so called 'cow shed crew' and I ended up running straight through Greggs the bakers and out the back of the shop to avoid a possible kicking......still managed to nick a couple of Dognuts on the way through.
I recall both sets of fans having a stand off outside the away end,fun days

Yeah we came back from 2-0 down.

I remember the Bolton pitch invasion although I was only 11 so it was pretty scary!

Millwall 1975-76 Season. Friday night mayhem. They were going for the Title and we ended up getting relegated. It was a boring 0-0 draw.

That game was notorious ,for all the wrong reasons ,segregation was not good in those days as you could get in any turnstile with cash ,with no seats in the North ,South and West stands and they had probably about 1000 supporters spread out in those stands .Things got off to a bad start when a mob of about 200 broke down the big blue gate behind the North Bank about an hour before kick off ,we wondered what the big crash was ,when we heard ''MIIILLLLLLWWWAAAALLLL ,MIIILLLLLLWWWAAAALLLL'' with some at the front brandishing Dockers Hooks ( they had a lot of Dockers from Millwall Docks in those days ) and knives ,all 50 or so young Southend fans legged it across to the East and West stands as the old bill waded in to save us .
It was too early for the main older Southend mob to be in there, which was a blessing. Crazy Days !!.

Remember jumping over the north bank fence covered in that black **** they painted over the top, was only 16-17, got to the half way line and looked back. Got a glimps of a few of our big lads pounding the Derby. Then felt a huge hand grab the back of my neck. Pushed back. Few words. Rest, blured into history. Prob a lucky escape.
