The Blue Boar & The Spread Eagle Pubs

Beg to differ, there have been some fantastic pubs over the years.....now I am not sure but in the 1960s and 70s there were many. I'll chuck a couple in for starters, The Grand Pier, Cornucopia, Top Alex.

Historically I agree, and add that when they opened The Dickens and Aristcrate, O'Neills where great places but didn't last, now unfortunately there aren't, imo, many/any other than the specialist tap bars. Or venture into Leigh or Rochford, Wakering and much better places exist.

Maybe so but it isn't fair to say SoS has always had crap pubs, that was my point. I have many happy memories, thankfully. Sad that there has been a decline though.

The one under Victoria shopping centre was a good boozer now sadly gone. Sutton Arms used to be okay but went downhill ages ago.
Did think the Railway was close to being alright and I did get to see Ten Pole Tudor in there for free.
I’m a little spoilt for great pubs where I am so I’m a little guilty of being a tad judgmental.

Under Victoria shopping centre was the Cork & Cheese. Before a big Saturday game in the late 70s, the nutters used to meet in the morning at the Sutton Arms for pub crawl. So then into the Cork & Cheese with the topless barmaids(Don't think that's allowed nowadays). Along to the Blue Boar. Around the corner to The Nelson, then back around to the Spread and finally the Golden Lion. Then onto the North Bank or South Bank depending.

The Red Lion is the most prolific pub name in the country but ...........
