Following on from the MLB trivia thread, where we discussed the fact that no NFL division has four teams that have all won a super bowl, I thought it was interesting to analyze which of the eight divisions has been most successful in terms of Super Bowl wins and appearances. With forty five Super Bowls, and therefore ninety Super Bowl appearances to be shared about, the NFC East is the resounding winner with 19 appearances, including 11 wins. Here's the full list:

NFC East: 19 (11)
AFC East: 16 (6)
AFC West 14 (6)
AFC North 11 (7)
NFC North 11 (5)
NFC West 10 (6)
AFC South 5 (2)
NFC South 4 (2)

Well it interested me, anyway.

Good thread, Rusty. Am i right in thinking that the NFC East is home to the Redskins, the Giants and (inexplicably) the Cowboys? If so, not a huge surprise to see them top of the pile, I guess.

The Cowboys stayed in the East after realignment to keep the rivalries with the Redskins, Giants and Eagles simmering. It might not have made a lot of sense geographically, but it makes a lot of sense to the fans of the four franchises.

The full breakdown on the NFC East is:

Cowboys: 5 wins, 3 losses
Redskins 3 wins, 2 losses
Giants 3 wins, 1 loss
Eagles 0 wins, 2 losses
