The Wire

It is indeed. As Pubey and I have spent 3 months resurrecting old threads to subtly say as much. I'll be starting series 5 this weekend. I wanted to watch it sooner but I am scared I'll have withdrawal symptoms when it ends.

Best drama show ever made I reckon personally. Every episode I watch I always think the same thing: "How did this show get made given the controversy, cost and subject matter? Its awesome..."

Indeed. Best drama ever! It's unbelievably good and the sad thing is I don't think we'll ever see such an ambitious, intelligent, cutting edge and accurate show ever again. It is light years ahead of anything else I've watched, single episodes have you welling up with tears, laughing your head off and gaping with shock.

Indeed it is... I haven't even got out of bed yet.

I'm f*cked in 4 months when I graduate, my way of life is over.

once you get a job you just won't do anything in the evenings except eat and watch the wire. i have no social life in the week really... it's McNulty time!

I was only thinking today about 'The Wire'- without a peek at or prompt from SZ - and how there is quite a strand of heroism in there, eg (without spoiling it for the folks who haven't seen it all yet), the denouements with Daniels, Jimmy Mac & the cop who makes his way up from the street to Sarge etc, particularly when he tries to 'rescue' the kid who gets forced into the residential home. Omar's moral code is fascinating too- what a 'stand alone' creation of a character he is! - and there's the other unsung heroes, ie the ex-con who runs the boxing gym, the ex-cop who becomes a teacher and the cleverest man on the planet, Lester Freamon (sic)... it's all there, and you'll probably remember the names of all these guys better than me too!

Nah- just a wind-up!!;)You won't like it, honest...

lol, part of me wants everyone to give it a try, and then part of me likes it being a cult show. You'll love it BA, it's every bit as good as everyone has been saying

Just give it time! Its a slow burner, and isn't cliffhanger TV like 24 or Lost. Well, it is, but not in the way if you catch my drift.

As the writer says on the great documentary on the Series 4 disc*, its TV you have to lean into and watch. There'll be episodes where you're not entirely sure whats going on or who's being talked about, but it'll all work itself out.

* Did you know that Omar is an amalgamation of lots of robbers? And there was a real 'Bunk'? And that the guy who plays the vicar (who helps out Dennis 'Cutty' Wise) was actually the equivalent of Avon Barksdale in real life?

wise words. interesting about that vicar dude.

just finished series 1 last night, cut me up big time with the bit with wallace, even though i knew it was coming. I think that is probably the most gutwrenching part of the whole series.
