The Wire

ordered series one off play a couple of days ago, expecting it tonight!! although i just started series 2 of 24 last night so will be a week or two before i give it a try!! im looking forward to it!!

I wasn't too sure about series 2 at the time, but am finding that of all of them its the one I want to rewatch the most right now.

Series 2 and 3 have some superb moments of comedy, especially series 3.

Just coming to the end of Series 2, it really is superb, i definitely like it more now than i did when i watched it for the first time. there is so much subtlety and sly humour in it... i love watching Frank, Stringer and Ziggy slowly unravel. Funniest bit is McNulty banging the two prozzies!

On a side note, if you haven't seen season two of 24 before you're in for a treat.

Supposedly, its going to be shown on BBC starting very soon:

Though I'm not sure how it'll work in weekly installments. I need to watch at least 3 in a row...

^^this. the continuation between episodes is very difficult, there isn't any recap (a la 24) and with so much going on it's hard to remember what was happening if you haven't watch it for a week. It's probably why it's done so well on DVD. Great that BBC2 are showing it though, especially for those with Sky+ who can queue a couple up

Im away for a few days tomorrow so im going to get the wife to download some, how many should be needed to get into it?

the whole first series really, you'll probably know if you are into it by half way (6 episodes) but the first 2-3 aren't great, it doesn't get going until about episodes 5-6.

I still can't find myself bothered to watch episode 3. It dosen't have the "grab you by the balls" factor like 24, BSG, Sopranos, Lost.

no, it sucks you in slowly and makes you a quivering addict after half of the first series... much like junk

No its a very different kettle of fish.

But ultimately far more rewarding as the hero is in the detail and gradual character arcs, rather than the reappearance of a long lost character / piece of exposition / explosive set piece.

There's a place for both in my life...

I watched series 1 of The Soprano's and didn't really get into it till about half way through. I've seen them all now, and highly doubt they'll ever be a better television drama series.

Lost though can just about take a running jump at the moment. I've continued with it, as if I don't I'll feel like i've been robbed, but the story arc at the moment is just ridiculous.

ive only watched the first episode of the first series of the sopranos (the pilot) and it didn't grab me. i'm sure i'll like it if i stick with it
