The Wire

wise words. interesting about that vicar dude.

just finished series 1 last night, cut me up big time with the bit with wallace, even though i knew it was coming. I think that is probably the most gutwrenching part of the whole series.

I'd forgotten about that character altogether. Seems like an age since I saw that episode, given how far we've all come together now...

There have been a few characters I've been gutted at losing along the way. Without giving anything away for y'all newcomers, a certain characters' corner stand off at the end of season 4 and the passing of another major subject early season 2 left me heartbroken...

"You come at the king, you best not miss." Omar Little

Just watched that episode, with Omar gunning down Stinkum. At this moment, I'd probably say he's the root cause of the black humour... with the whistling of A Hunting We Will Go.

I think the best bit of writing i've seen was De'Angelo teaching the boys how to play Chess, with the underlining resemblence to how the game and the hood works. Brilliant stuff, and the best bit i've seen since The Soprano's peaked around Season 5.

I think you can all guess what i'll be doing today....

the bits i love are often when Daniels is giving advice. There is a bit after he finds that Carver has been feeding info to Burrell, and he says that when he is leading his unit of 11-12 men, if you play them, they'll play you, if you show them loyalty, they'll show it back, and if you make it about the work, they'll make it about the work.

Daniels is awesome (and so ripped!)

I love the journey Carver & Herc go on. At one point you think one's going to be the Daddy when he gets his stripes, and the other will be a failure. Then somehow, without you even noticing, the other totally owns his mate and becomes your hero while the other washes their career down the toilet...

God I love this programme...

Have just finished series one and this bit really got me. Very sad and, for the first time viewer, a shock. The way he used to make a little packed lunch for the kids and bought them chinese food...

All in the game.

Easy on the spoilers, eh, lads?

Just watched the final four episodes of season two tonight and am moving onto season three next week. Amazing TV thus far.

My girlfriend had a dream last night where Omar came round with her folks to play Wii Tennis.

She also learned (in real life this time) that his full name is Michael Kenneth Williams.

no probs.

just rewatching series 2 at the moment, the subtlety of the writing really comes out when watching it again (esp. in Series 2). The Greeks, Frank Sabatka(sp), Rawls... absolutely love it!

The early part of Series 2 where McNulty is having a fax-machine battle with Rawls is pure genius!

Series 2 & 3 were really funny too. Something that doesn't get mentioned nearly often enough when people talk about the programme

Gotta say, halfway through season 5 and not enjoying this final run too much as yet.

Its a bit more far fetched and violent than previous series. Plus the secondary thread running through the shows (the media) doesn't interweave with the main story dynamic as well.

Its obviously still very good, but just not as good as I'd hoped...

You know I've watched episodes 1 & 2 of series 1 and I'm yet to be convinced of it's brilliance. It just seems a far more swearier version of a bog standard crime drama but I shall give it a chance.

I've never watched an episode, but based on the reviews from this board, I now have five seasons to get through. Looks like I'm in for a treat. Will get a bucketful of coronation chicken and a dozen baguettes to complete the experience.

the first two episodes of the first series are probably the worst episodes of the whole thing, it really gets going in the middle section of series 1. episode 3 is great

Oh God... the pressure. You didn't spend $200 on it did you?

they rushed Series 5 because HBO shortened the number of episodes they could have. IMO it's the weakest of the 5, but still excellent and the ending is superb (as always, with the musical montage)

Well, i've been absent from the board for around 2 weeks because my laptop decided to die on me.

During that time I worked my way through series 2, which I actually thought was better than the first. I don't whether it was a matter of me knowing what was coming so I was more open to it than I was the first series, but I thought this was the single best drama series i've seen since Series 5 of The Sopranos.

As has already been said, the black humour in parts is brilliant. In the first series, it was when McNulty had to come and collect Bunk from some womans house, where he was sh*tfaced attempting to burn his clothes as evidence in his affair.

I wasn't too sure about series 2 at the time, but am finding that of all of them its the one I want to rewatch the most right now.

Series 2 and 3 have some superb moments of comedy, especially series 3.
