Post-Match Thread and Ratings Torquay United 1-0 Southend United

One further bit of evidence to underline the shambles in white.
This is a second before the ball gets played out left to be crossed low and converted at the back post.
How many yellow shirts out of eight are marked? Two?
There are five white shirts doing sod all.
Coulson is gesturing left: is Atkinson taking a blind bit of notice? The scorer is the man behind him.
Go forward a couple of frames as the ball reaches the crosser and attackers break, and no one is marked.
All this in the 90th minute!
Dreadful sloppy marking, seemingly unaware of the threat and not tight on 2 key players, Went to sleep when should have been concentrating most. What happened to the wisdom of experience ? goodness me, schoolboy stuff

Never mind the marking, the positioning of some players is horrible. Ralph is standing next to Coulson and should be where Atkinson is. You can tell that both Egbri and Dennis have no idea how to play as wing-backs (not surprised as they are attacking wingers).

Sorry, but disagree.
You can blame the recruitment on PB, and of your list, I'd say Ralph and White are OK.
The rest?
There were Torquay players capable of dribbling past our players yesterday. Yeah, remember dribbling? None of ours can do that: none.
Arnold would be included in the capable list, and maybe Bridge.
But the two forwards?
Having seen Dalby in the flesh, he's no speed merchant, and Murphy doesn't jump very high.
Important, considering the ever constant flow of balls whanged up in the air towards the front two.
Bridge?

Atkinson was ball watching on the goal and let Lemonade-Evans run behind him for a tap-in at the far post.

Atkinson isn't to blame IMO. He has an opposition in front and one behind to mark. If he goes to the one behind then he gives the player in front space, if he goes to the one in front then the player behind has space. He is trying to be between the two so he can close down whoever is likely to get the ball. Ralph should be closer to the player in front of Atkinson and Dennis should be closer to the player behind Atkinson.

Coulson is most likely telling Ralph to move over as he is out of position. Both wing-backs are out of position. Egbri goes to close down the player on the ball and gives their winger the entire left side to play in a great cross between our defence and goalkeeper. Dennis is out wide where he would be if he was playing as a left midfielder/winger, but he should be in line with the back post as a wing-back.

Ralph is regularly out of position………and rarely prevents crosses.

Should play further forward as he is a very poor defender but a decent footballer going forward.

Good leap on him too but his dressing room nickname is probably Jonah.

Didn't realise how slow Agogo is....helpppp!
He really has set up a paceless eleven!

Just got back from a very pleasant few days in the west. After watching such a dire performance by both sides I felt that one major mistake would decide the game but both were inept and it was heading for a bore draw.PB has got to eat some humble pie and change the midfield which is truly awfull.Give Murphy and Dalby the ball so they can do ther stuff at present they are struggling to make any impact.
