Official Match Thread Tranmere Rovers vs Southend United

What we thinking ?

What changes would you make at HT or early second half ?

I'm thinking Sterling to come on ? Get 2 up top ?

Wouldn’t change anything, we’ve been decent. Haven’t been impressed with Sterling at all so far. He’s looked completely anonymous in both games he’s played. Wouldn’t mind seeing Goodship on to play off Acquah if we go further behind or are still losing at around 70mins.

Best we've played for ages, looked really good. Played it longer, no tippy tappy at the back.
Then swarmed all over second balls, really good hustle.
Aquah has done a really good job as a target man with his back to goal, made sure everything is a fight so we can win those second balls, kept Clarke from winning the ball and getting it back to them.
Stonewall penalty to us not given, shocking decision.
But we failed to mark at the free kick, quality bullet header.
If we play like that second half a point is the very least we deserve

Have you seen any evidence that we can pass, shoot, defend or keep? Wouldn't that be the coaches responsibility?

Do you think coaches can just stick some players in front of a goal in training and magically make them expert finishers? Improvements to technique don't happen overnight, that only comes over the course of months of hard work. Our passing today has been good, we've controlled the game and Olayinka/Taylor look a class above in midfield.
Our biggest problem has always been personnel, but the players coming in look very good which is to the manager's credit.

Clifford looking good, overlaps nicely, and getting balls into box quicker, We need someone to get closer to aquah when we launch it at him, get the knock downs and build from their, needs to be either taylor or Olyinka
Exactly this. If Goodship comes on to play that role it would need to be at the expense of Taylor or Olayinka imo.

I genuinely believe we can still take something from this game. We may be losing but look a different side compared to Tuesday's performance. I have Olayinka to score first for us and he does look the most likely.

The softest of goals conceded - scroll back and watch it again. Taylor passes backwards straight to Vaughan. Then chases off after him nibbling away till he brings him down when there’s no danger. Peter Clarke walks up very late and no one goes to mark him. He jumps when no one else does to get his 50th league goal.

If there was contact on Demi for the penalty shout then it was a clear penalty. So difficult to see from the angle it was though. But surely if the ref thought there was no contact, he should’ve booked him for diving?
