Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
I guess the issue isn't regarding their desire to play for us, but the fact they both require transfer fees.

With a sustainable budget, are we really going to pay a transfer fee for two CB's, leaving us with very little to spend elsewhere?
I would hope the extra unbudgeted income from the play offs and wembley would cover any fees. It's the wage demands that would probably be a problem.

Although transfer fees are obviously an issue, to have two solid central defenders who can also score goals would be a massive help. Having defenders who can score goals is something that has cost us over the past few seasons. The extra 7 or 8 goals a season would have guaranteed play off places.

I'm not saying that both wouldn't be amazing additions. I'm just fully aware of the financial situation.

The general consensus is we need a top striker and a quality midfielder who can score and assist. They cost a lot of money. So buying two CB's isn't something I can envisage happening. It feels like an 'either' 'or' situation.

But those events at rootshall needed paying for. The screens, staff wages etc all had to be paid from those takings.

Also, we are losing £2m quid a year. We aren't going to spend all of our playoff revenue on transfer fees. Offsetting a proportion of those debts with some of the generated revenue is what COSU will do.

Promotion is more of a factor in acquiring both players.

They are both young players and fees tend to be paid in installments. And sell on is also an area of flexibility. In the end trying to save money by only bringing in free transfers can be a false economy in many ways. Both of these players have every possibility of returning a higher fee down the road. We shall see. Golding also can certainly play as a holding CM.

Inniss I would be surprised if FGR don’t have an option? If they haven’t then it might well be that either or both sides were in it for this season with promotion a critical factor in the future.

Inniss may want EFL football, FGR may be paying a hefty wedge and didn’t want to commit to longer. Either way I suspect we would need to be back in the EFL (notwithstanding KAF allegedly told Daggers he wanted EFL football before rocking up with us- although I suspect the wages are very different)

Ralph
Gubbins
Goodliffe
Golding
Taylor

Seems about the right number with a back three given on average at least one will be injured at any given time. I would get rid of Crowther as I don't think he is good enough.

Seems Goodliffe will be back at Col Ewe next season , but one can hope ,Innis would be welcome but we still need a striker badly ,one that can hit the onion regularly, Thought Gubbins done well when he came on and took his penalty so calmly too.
He is still under contract for next season with us, much will depend on if our offers to other players is accepted. Both central defenders who were 1st choice playing for us in the 2nd half of the season have been offered new deals, but they haven’t accepted them so far although both say they want to stay. If Cowley wants him at Col U he will have to stay here, but if Danny says he can leave then it will be up to Ben.

Not necessarily, he may want to leave

I see Olie Kensdale is a bee, signed for Barnet on a 2 year deal, there second signing in two days..

I really hope we have our transfers targets lined up and are talking to the players we hope to sign.

If we have a mediocre start to next season and someone says it was because our recruitment was affected by not knowing what division we’d be in till June because of the play offs I’m going to….well… try and stay calm.
