.... no not Howard Webb.

After the correctly predicted excesses of Darren Deadman, the man in charge on Tuesday is David Webb of County Durham. (Just a matter of days after we had Chris Powell on 4th official duty at Yeovil).

Not much to say about Mr Webb, a young official in his second season. He seems to be getting on just fine and has been given three Championship appointments already this season. I've never seen him referee and he's never done a Southend game before.

Last season, his card count was very low, but he's upped the pace a bit this season with 45 yellows and just one red from 13 matches. He did the televised cup upset at Northwich a couple of weeks ago.

Assisting are Mark Heywood and Lee Metcalfe from Cheshire and Lancs respectively and scouser Steve Copeland stands by as 4th official.

Thought he was good when he did the northwich victoria game. Thinks about his decisions, didnt seem to make a poor decision. Hopefully will let the game flow though not sure how it will flow given the expected weather conditions. Great post again mick

... with the tide, presumably.

Hmmm ... I guess failure to spot McLeod's violent conduct which resulted in a retrospective 3 match ban was probably the only minus point but it could easily have been outside of his field of vision.

Did ok, I'd have him to ref us again, probably one of the best we've seen this season - not that that is too difficult!
