Echo News What Ron Martin is looking for in Southend United's next manager

Craig is a decent lad he did very well as a player for us, his playing career was wrecked by injury towards the end. He would be very young to be a manager, but others have done it and been succesful so he is certainly worth consideration. He would have learned a lot about being a young manager having played at clubs managed by Phil Parkinson.

Not really, these days when you think Eddie Howe and Karl Robinson we’re both 29 when they started their management career. I think 37 is young but not very young.

It’s a bit ageist of Ron to specify he is looking for someone young! I wouldn’t be allowed to use such terminology when advertising my company’s vacancies. But I suppose football is very different to most other industries out there.

as a number 2. He has made it VERY clear he wants to be a manager

shameless plug to point you in the direction of this where he talks all about it

This was a great watch. The thing that stands out for me is when he’s talking about Cian Bolger. He is a natural man manager and that’s something we’ve not had here for a while. While I think Barrett would be very popular, I also think it’s very clear he doesn’t take ****.

How much of this decision is going to be based on feelgood factor?, within reason (and geographical location) those of us on this message board will be going regardless of who is in charge, the floating fans are not as likely to go without knowing who the new manager is when you factor in playing in a lower division without, I imagine, reducing the ticket price. With that in mind I feel AB starts to look more likely?

You also want people on side when shirts go on sale, if people are going to wait to see how we play that must be a huge drop in demand week on week from launch launch date.

If I remember correctly he played a few games here on trial one pre-season.
PB went out of his way to say he was playing to keep fit and was not on trial- said same at GWR when I was there for that game.
He still had all the quality and was “running” fit but by that stage injuries had taken their toll in terms of being able to play regularly. Scored one and made one that day from memory.

Tweet from CP.... "As things stand right now, it's unlikely Adam Barrett will be the next Blues boss. He's very highly rated at Millwall"
