Greetings fellow 'zoners,

I've lived in Australia now for 2 years and will never actually return to live, but have been toying with the idea of returning maybe next April to show off our expected baby ( 19th Dec )to our relatives.

I have a choice

For the 3 of us ( me, other half and baby ) it will cost around
$6,000.
I can buy a 8 seater outdoor spa for that price.

Please give me 3 reasons why i should return to England and not buy the spa...

This is a serious question as i'm sure this site has a healthy social, psychological and age mix which will represent many views.

(please note:family and sufc are obvious reasons so are not included )

because 6,000 oz is about £4.50.. you could get a job in a bar here and in a week fly back first class..
plus also you will want your child to aqquire a finely developed 'english' sense of humour so keeping it away from aussies is a must at that crucial stage of its life.
oh and your relatives will be made up..
mind you 20 plus hours on a plane with a 4 month old kid.. not for me

Because a biological hazard of a Spa Bath is no compensation for getting a chance to see the Mighty Shrimpers live at the Hall. End of discussion!!

Here's a few...

1. You will be able to buy some decent clothes, get a decent haircut and buy decent music.

2. You will lower the risk of you or your family being bitten by a funnel web, stung by a box jellyfish or chewed up by a great white.

3. You can catch up on any episodes of Neighbours or home and away that you may have missed eighteen months ago.

4. A return to civilsation may delay aquiring one of those ridiculous Australian accents.

1. Southend United

2. Nosh from 'The Fish House' before the game.

3. Real beer and chips in The Spread before and after the game

I beg to differ with m'learned Maltese colleague. If he's coming all the way from Perth, then he should head the extra mile or two to Bailey's Fish Fry Inn on the Eastern Esplanade.

IMHO, Bailey's still provides the finest fish'n'chips in Southend... and in a restaurant that has a touch of local history about it.

what about the one opposite the palace theatre? oldhams or something like that?

There are 3 reasons why you would leave Australia to come to this country -

1)Friends
2)Family
3)Southend United

(not neccesarily in that order)

Speaking as someone who's family circumstances will probably mean moving to Queensland at some point in the future they are the only things I'd miss and be the only pull to ever come back. Otherwise stay in your hot, vibrant, modern country with the outdoor lifestyle and vastly superior standard of life!
