World Cup 2022

One thing that hasn't really been mentioned yet is whether countries like Australia, USA, South Korea and Japan will look to take legal action.

All of these countries spent millions bidding for a SUMMER World Cup, only for the goal posts to be changed after the bidding process to then be a Winter World Cup. If they knew this before the process how many of them would still have made a bid?

I am guessing there are guidelines which every country must follow when bidding for a World Cup and if they have all followed these only for Fifa to then change what the criteria was after the vote has been cast, then each of those countries potentially could take legal action to recoup the money they spent on something they were falsely bidding for?

Australia kicked up about this a while back, but it does appear to have gone a little quiet...

Certainly seems to me that, as you say, the 'losing' countries have a strong case for getting some compensation.

The timing shouldn't be an issue. Start each season between now and Qatar 2 weeks earlier ( or whatever). By the time Qatar comes round, that season will have finished. After, do the reverse.

In that case Australia don't have a leg to stand on!

FIFAs defence will be that the WC is allocated to whoever gives out the most back handers and when it is played does not effect the fact that the losing nations just didn't stump up large enough bribes.

So Slippery Sepp Blatter has now come out and said it was 'a mistake' giving it to Qatar (controversial call, that).

Unbelievably, Blatter could become football's friend here. Blatter fancies a fifth (!) term in charge of FIFA and it seems his strongest rival will be Michel Platini, who was fully behind the Qatar bid.

So if Blatter runs again, will he use canning Qatar in favour of the USA or Australia as his big campaign message?
