Reading the article, the pitches only have 4 years life left in them. I assume a load more dosh will need to be spent when they wear out then?

My local youth football teams ground move has mirrored SUFC for the last 15 years, except that we actually moved this year, all be it to the equivalent of a 3 sided stadium in comparison to what we have ended up with . Anyway at one stage we planed to have a 3G pitch . They are not quite the cash cow everyone thinks due to maintenance. In summary you have to budget 10% of the initial cost for general maintenance and to have funds to replace it after 8=10 years. A real life example is below, Basically the replacement costs on a 60*120m pitch were £225,000 plus vat. The actual base works and pitch costs (for replacement pitch) is approx £25.00 m2

More importantly this does sound like great news. TBH it like most SUFC news ' you couldn't make it up'

You dont build a stadium for where you are but where you want to be.

Its not that long ago we were selling out 10,000 tickets, and we have sold around that for league two games with deals.

You build a stadium to realise your potential, 22,000 has always been very ambitious though.

As for Darlington, didnt work out for them, but what about Reading/Wigan/Swansea/Brighton. Plenty of success stories.

History and nostalgia you cant replace sadly, but neither can they sustain a football club.

Maybe Sherrif can comment, but I recall Ron stating that the cost difference on a 18000 vs 22000 stadium meant that if we sold out 2-4 games a season (cant recall which figure) then the 22,000 stadium became cost effective. If we did hit the Championship that sounds totally feasible

With so many London clubs in various European cups I wonder if they will try to market it to the travelling teams as a base. I.e. Fly into Southend airport, train in this and stay in the Hotel in the 4th stand of the new stadium? Maybe without the last bit as messi won't want to sleep on a hill

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is how long is this going to take to build? Ron is already giving timelines that don't immediately make sense to me. We are going to apply for Cat 2 status at the end of the season according to Ron's statement. So we aqre going to get planning permission through and get this built by the end of the season??? The requirements (https://www.goalreports.com/EPLPlan.pdf) don't mention anything about accepting a giant lego project stacked up in the corner of a field

It took just 20 weeks from design brief according to this, so should take less time being just a reconstruction. As mentioned before, it looks like planning permission has been submitted as this is part of the stadium planning.

Planning consent is still pending from the revised submission of revised details in Feb 2014. This is probably due to the Section.106 dragging on with SBC.
The domes are not shown on the revised plans, perhaps a fresh planning application to Rochford is underway??

So we spend two million on a training dome .This can only enhace the good of the club .Phil brown said last season we was having problems finding places for the squad to train in winter .Well now they will have there own dome to train in . The incoming of phil brown has improved the status of the club .Where has the money come from well who cares as long as it didnt come from wonga . Does this meen the end of fossets farm NO because what can be errected can come down and go to a new training ground if boots ans laces is to be flattened only time will tell .

One half of the area could be for training (and keep the other half of the pitch for when it gets worn out) and use the other half for high value fruits to provide cash flow during the summer. Use the squad (including the youth team) as labour. Win, win situation. Ron could get some training grants as well given that he is providing the players with a trade for when they stop playing. :omg:

Where is all this heading? Can see the Evening Echo headlines, ''Ron Martin caught using half the soccer dome as cannabis farm.''

I like it. We could call it 'The Romanian Dome.'
