MICHAEL Timlin inspired Southend United to a fourth successive League Two triumph but was left angered by sections of the Shrimpers’ support during their 2-0 win against Northampton Town at Roots Hall.

Some fans express themselves at matches and it is their right to do so. The players want the adulation when they do well and should expect expressions of disappointment when things are not so good, which is most of the time. Some of the worst abuse is uncalled for and the singling out of certain players over the years has been incredulous.

Grow a pair Timlin. You will get all the praise you and the team dream of when you earn it.

I don't think he's talking about fans groaning and getting a bit annoyed with playing poorly, I think he's referring to certain individuals who spend all game hurling abuse at any player who wanders into their line of vision. We've all heard them. If you look up the definition of 'fan' or 'supporter', these people are neither. Makes you wonder why they pay their money as they do absolutely nothing for the team.

We sit in green or black or South upper, the moronic behaviour from grown men is tiresome and probably spoils other fans experience.

What he/she said above.

I'm curious. You're agreeing with him then telling him to grow a pair?

Soon he will be taking goal kicks then sprint up the pitch to receive his goal kick:smile:

I'm curious. You have used the word sprint and aligned it with Barry Corr?

I happen to think we have some of the most foul mouthed (towards our own players) fans that I have ever seen.

Comments like this form the players during a 4th win on the trot should really make some embarrassed.

It is standard though isn't it? Mike Marsh used to say that his team used to hate playing at Roots Hall because of the atmosphere and plenty of other players have said or implied the same thing.

I don't think our fans are any more unpleasant than any other but there's something about the ground which makes the odd unsavoury comment from the same faces every week much more audible than it is elsewhere.

Unfortunately they hurl abuse, tell the player they are a disgrace & useless, promise that's it they are not coming back- and then to the dismay of all at the next match they are sat there again. Nothing you can do other than pity them and drown out the negative with support.

i think it's entirely reasonable for Tims to point it out

When you win your 4th game in a row and work your socks off I think its reasonable to be disappointed to get slated.

I cannot understand the reasoning how these fans feel they have the right to abuse any player,Would they do it in the street?

They do have the right. If a player is playing badly or does not put the effort in. Then the crowd have every right to shout out abuse at that player or any number of players. No they would not do that in the street. But this is not the street, it's a football ground where I believe they have every right. I have shouted abuse many times and will continue to do so. Timlin can lump it, or take up badmington. (where I believe abuse is not approved of)

Timlin can suck it up. He has a job many dream of. I would get a b0llocking at work if I do something wrong, I think they should expect the same. Crack on and get promotion and everyone can have a little sing along about you if that's what you strive for.
