As I live in swansea a mate got me and my brother and nephew tickets for this in the Swansea main stand at the Vetch ( if you could call it that) bit intimidating but fun nonetheless. Does anyone know of any footage off all the incidents that day? (sending offs/ goals) greta day in the cold.

Last game of the season against Oxford away which is a Fancy Dress Day for those attending maybe come up with a theme for the day a simple costume just a idea all dressed the same just a few ideas: where's wally - smurfs - just a couple of ideas that could be extended on should the idea be taken up

If we need 3 points to win promotion then i think most will give fancy dress the kibosh as the game will be too important

Just showing my age I'm afraid . However, Liverpool away FA Cup 3rd Round Replay in 1979 or 1980. Have a feeling that despite a petrol shortage and a harsh winter 6000 plus went to Anfield on a Wednesday night. I remember it seemed to take an age to find the right coach in Stanley Park after the game.

IIRC Thunderley, your figure isn't far out, also first FA cup game at the baseball ground (with that smelly train journey) was a few thousand there.

In May 2010 I posted the following;

50 Best Away Attendances in last 6 years

After the depressing away attendances of last season, here'e our 50 best turnouts of the last six years, and I bet you can't look down the list without a smile coming to your face as you remember the trips.

Lat year was depressing but this list is why we go away, the good times will return and we will return in numbers.

I remember the MK Dons game in 2005 - 06 season we got promoted....... It was bloody freezing and chucking it down. I don't think I've ever been colder at a footy match...

I don't think it rained Leo, but it was certainly blowing a gale and as you say bitterly bitterly cold

You could be right BLUEBLOOD, I just remember all us Shrimpers sitting on scaffolding with seats bolted to it. It was so cold we just couldn't generate any noice... And we lost

My mistake, it was the 1936/37 season when we drew 4 all at WHL

Just for you BB:

TOTTENHAM 4-4 SOUTHEND UNITED
This match is probably the most memorable in the history of Southend professional football and been the main topic of conversation since the draw was made ten days before Christmas. Thousands travelled from Southend and district by motors, motor coaches and trains to the famous North London football centre. The scene on the London-Southend Arterial Road was a remarkable one from noon onwards, hundreds of Southend motor cars, taxi-cabs, motor coaches etc with the familiar index letters of JN and HJ passed and re-passed each other while the houses of refreshment along the highway were crowded with Southend people having a hasty snack prior to the match. The special trains from L.N.E.R. and L.M.S. stations each carried over 500 supporters whilst hundreds of others travelled from the City via Liverpool Street to White Hart Lane and others went by the L.M.S. to South Tottenham. The streets of Tottenham seemed alive with Southend people and it is computed that there were no fewer than 8,000 Southend followers in the huge crowd and the cheer that greeted the visitors was equal in volume to that which welcomed the wearers of the white jerseys. 48,839 paid for admission (receipts £3,500) and there must have been over 50,000 present in all, which makes this the biggest crowd that Southend had ever played in front of, (beating the 39,700 at Sheffield United in 1920 and at Birmingham in 1914 which was slightly less).

The first goal came after only four minutes when Bolan headed a Stevens cross past the goalkeeper to enormous cheers from the Southend contingent, but Tottenham were awarded a penalty shortly afterwards but MacKenzie managed to get his fingertips to the ball and push the ball past the post. However half through the half after slack play from the Southend defence Tottenham equalised and four minutes later they took the lead. For the last twenty minutes it was all Southend playing like they had never played before, Bolan equalised and then the Blues forced corner after corner but just couldn’t add to the score. The second half hadn’t been in progress long when an Oswald cross was converted by Bolan completing his hat-trick against his old club, then half way through the half Tottenham capitalised on a shaky back pass and equalised. With thirty five minutes to go a thirty five shot from ‘Spurs could only be pushed onto the post and the rebound was put straight into the net to give Tottenham the lead. The Southend team showed pluck and pertinacity and Lane equalised again for the Blues. The last twenty minutes were tense but neither side could score and nobody could deny Southend the right to replay at the Stadium.

Two stand out for me:

Workington away - I think 15 of us in a mini bus, weekend in Blackpool - forgotten the year & Swansea promotion year.

What was the year when we played Woking away in the FA cup? We took quite a few to that match too... We had a stand the whole lenght of the pitch..

Newport away last away game of 76-77 I know there were some others there, but i didn't see anyone !!
Mind you we were on a schocking run at the time, we only won 2 of the last 12 games , but still finished 10th due to drawing 21 games and it only being 2 points for a win

97/98 the total attendance (according to Robins site) was only 3967, we took a few but we near the bottom of the 3rd teir having been relegated the year before and Alvin Martin was in charge, so I doubt there were more than 1000 of ours

That was my finest hour in football. The ball was kicked out onto the terracing and I traped it under my foot, thus followed by a chorus of sign him up by the travelling Shrimpers

A coachload from the Nelson there, I got Steve Goodwins shirt, back home and straight on the free Rock against Racism coaches from Vic Circus to Victoria Park to see the Clash. What a weekend

One that automatically sticks out to me was our following at Charlton away when they played at upton park about in the 90s I think ( sorry 99% of Southend games I end up getting ****ed )

The Newport game was a tuesday night ....and we lost 3-0

You're thinking of the following year when we played the last game of the season away at Newport , won 2-1

Which would explain why I didn't see a coachload from the Nelson
