Its a combination of Shrewsbury away, Burton away and Wycombe at home that have cost us most, as we were leading in all 3 games. I think if we had won all three of those games we would now be top of the table!

If you are looking for a manager that never throws away a lead you'll be looking for a long time.

Yes of course,

But the manager is the only one who can change it when things are going wrong yet Phil Imo refused to change anything, preferring to maintain his formation which was seen as too rigid, too defensive and lacking any goal threat.yeah we stumbled on and have been top 7 all season, but the real thing for me is the standard in this division has been pretty poor and any manager thinking I shall play them off the park with attacking intent will achieve their promotion dream.

He has made changes through the season, but continued changes are not good for the team

If an alien landed and read this forum, from reading what you write he would think that we didnt win a game and lost every one in fact until we went 442, this simply is not the case. As I said we have been there or there abouts all season long. We do not have the given right to be favourites for promotion. How many times have we heard opposing managers praise us and say that they wont face many tougher games than playing us. That again is testiment to what the set up is here.

Yes, PB has been defenesive all season, but that is what most teams need to be built on ! Id rather not leak goals, knowing that we have something to build on, as opposed to knowing we have to score 3 or 4 a game to win a game becuse we know that we cant keep a clean sheet !

I do get what you say about wanting to be "entertained", but you know what, if Southend win 1-0, I leave the ground a lot happier than I would if we had lost a "classic" 7 goal thriller against Hartlepool ! Buts that me. I am for the points on the board.

Finally, as someone else pointed out, people keep banging on about goals ..., however there are many teams in the league with more goals than us and they are below us in the league, so what would you prefer ??

According to you we play in a 25 team division which explains plenty of your thinking !

If you are happy with constant dull 1 0 wins or drab 0 0 draws that is ultimately your choice,I on the other hand decided that football was not for me.

Great response... , oh no, I made a slight error about the number of home games !

23 home games, 24 home games, so what, who cares, however what I would say is, Least I ACTUALLY GO AND SUPPORT THEM , regardless of crying about wanting more goals you sofa loving joke ! Ive supported them, in the ground, through worse days than what you are whinging about, Dick Bate and Colin Murphy, days so dark you had to really push yourself to go to Roots Hall, but I did, ive earned my stripes, as far as I am concerned you are a party time fun time football supporter, you dont deserve to call yourself a supporter end of !

Calm down dear !

You are in turmoil, have a rest and chill out.:dim:

Mind you from what I keep seeing this season I doubt Shrewsbury, Burton or Wycombe have actually thrown away many leads this season, quite a few times they all seem to score late goals to win/draw games. It would be an interesting stat to find out.

We've lost the lead 4 times at home, resulting in 4 draws, and 5 times away, resulting in 3 defeats and 2 draws.

Burton have only lost the lead once at home, resulting in a draw, and twice away, both resulting in draws.

Shrewsbury have only lost the lead once at home, resulting in a draw, and 3 times away, resulting in 2 draws and a defeat. 3 of those 4 games were thrown away due to goals in the 90th minute. The other game they lead 1-0 before going 2-1 down only to grab an equaliser. They were 2-0 up to Exeter and lost 3-2 thanks to another 90th minute goal.

Interesting stat of the day: Shrewsbury have lost 1-0 away to the top 7 sides.

Wycombe have lost the lead 3 times at home, resulting in 3 draws, and 3 times away, resulting in 2 draws and a defeat.

Points lost from winning positions:
Burton - 6 points (3 draws)
Shrewsbury - 9 points (3 draws & 1 defeat)
Wycombe - 13 points (5 draws & 1 defeat)
Southend - 21 points (6 draws & 3 defeats)

If football isn't for you, why are you talking about it on a football forum ? Last night's match was an absolute corker with all sides of the ground chanting in unison for our mighty warriors. Your loss if you don't go anymore !!

Wow - thanks for doing that , what an amazing and disparate set of statistics - read in to it what you will - I guess!!

Great work thanks, pretty much as I expected. No one expects to win every game when you take a lead but to throw away that many points from 9 games is not good and we have still only lost 9 games all season so far.

Amazing that this can be called a weak division with 5 teams looking like they will finish with 80 plus points.

Lot of Phil Brown haters on here .Amazing how many people play a computer game and think they can do the thing in real life.

Couldn't blame Phil for going with all this rubbish written but we have to remember one thing: no manager is a guaranteed success here. We could change our manager and go backwards next season. the grass isn't always greener.

The only reason we are not getting automatic promotion this year is not do with PB. Its the fact that the top three have had remarkable seasons.

Phil Brown is commendably ambitious, but he is also aware of Portsmouth's turnover of managers in recent seasons. In fact, he publicly commented on this issue last season. Phil has already indicated his willingness to sign a long-term contract with Southend and I hope the Chairman and the manager can sit down shortly and finally agree on one that can be signed now or immediately at the end of the season.

I like Phil Brown. I think he is like a breath of fresh air compared with many managers Southend have had. He is passionate, articulate, well-connected in the game, and has established the foundations for long-term progression at the club. He has enhanced the national profile of the club through his media work. Of course, like everyone else on this board, he makes mistakes but he does seem to learn from them (unlike some previous managers we have had).

The speculation sure fired the team up last night !
Phil was alway's here as the steeping stone effect.Managers come and go that is the nature of the game,if we hired Joseph Bloggs and he led us to great heights, guess what he would be off to bigger things likewise any good players we unearth.

I feel the abuse on here is not even abuse as such, people offering their valid opinion which is what any message board is all about, now the abuse at home games does Imo step way over the line and those abusers should be arrested.

Yours opinion is not valid by anyone.... As you don't attend

Neither is mine then or any ex-pat Shrimpers in fact - thanks for that, I'll shut up and keep my opinions to myself!

Not at all Tampa Blue, that quote was aimed clearly at mrsblue for his five troll posts a thread.

Plenty of topics for anyone to discuss and you have a right to a opinion, its nice to hear from the ex-pat Shrimpers. I always smile when I realize someone so far away still has a place in their hart for our club. You have always been quick to point out that when it comes to match performance your not in the best position.

What wipes the smile off my face is the club whingers. If you did not attend a game would you start telling the world who should have been subbed or not. On several occasions mrsblue has tried the old cliché PB has 'lost the dressing' room. I can assure you that anyone who went on Tuesday night will have a chuckle at that bit of nonsense.

Tampa Blue... shame you missed the game of the season [so far]
mrsblue....... shame you were sat on your sofa.... perhaps your opinions would be more valid on the furniture forum

Writing about me at 455am seems obsessive !

Whether I attend games has nothing to do with you,If you don't like my view, then why bother reading it?

I stated on here 2 year's ago I am unable to attend midweek games, nothing has changed !.

Remember this is a message board,it's not life or death !

Morning mrsblue good to see you like an early start. So, do you still think PB has lost the dressing room then?
