Just a training session really but it would be nice to see us score at least one goal, we seem to be persisting with playing one up front and thats what cost us last season.

If this is Colchester's first team, they're going to be struggling this season. Walk in the park so far. Mcglashan's pace got around the final man when you'd have bet against him and the ensuing chaos led to a deserved penalty. Cox played the keeper well and passed it into the area of the goal he'd vacated. Mcglashan then went off injured after a meaty challenge on the touchline

Second goal was a calm trough ball from Cox that Mooney finished comfortably. A couple of inexplicably wayward passes from Demetriou but apart from that he still looks a massive uplift on White. And Williams' a*** looks bigger than ever. I believe that's everything.

Pretty much our 1st team although we do have several others both on the bench today and also not in the matchday squad who have similar abilities so there may be a few changes. Hard to tell with friendlies when players are not going all out, the truth will be revealed next Saturday!

Good performance from us. Fingers crossed McGlashan coming off was just a precaution, he did well before that. Col Ewe were poor and Phil Brown certainly won't be regretting letting Prosser go. Took an early lead and the rest was all about fitness, so good to see Simon Cox and most of the starting eleven get 90 minutes under their belt.

Demetriou played well and as expected seems better than White, Thompson and Barrett weren't really challenged but never looked troubled. Ted made a couple of smart stops too.

Cox has the footballing brain of Noel Hunt but has the mobility that he lacked, could see he'll be a massive asset this season and brought others into the game as much as he had his own chances.

Lots of positives for us to take from that going forward, and other than Oxley/Smith would say that'll be our starting eleven next Saturday.

Oh dear, C and P. Another defeat for your boys. Will you now concede, that we are without doubt, the best team in Essex ?

Perhaps you'll get your own back in the league. Oh ! Hold on a minute....you can't !! ha ha ha :winking:

Match report: Southend United 2, Colchester United 0

FIRST half goals from Simon Cox and David Mooney meant Southend United ended their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 win against Colchester United at Roots Hall this afternoon.

That pretty much sums it up. Cox and Mooney could give us a decent front line partnership, Demetriou looks class and Mclaughlin is also looking sharp. First time in the South Bank Upper, great view but leg room is a bit tight.

CAP, if that was your first eleven I suggest you come and watch our home games instead. They were collectively a bit grim to watch I'm afraid.

Cox and Mooney linked up well and they could form a good partnership this season.

Great tackle from Atkinson to put the Col Ewe player out of the game. Payback for Gilbey's tackle from last season?

Great stop on 60 mins from Smith, I thought it was a goal all day long.

What was the point of fans booing Prosser? Gave everything while playing for us and got binned off for standing up to PB.

On that performance, Col Ewe are going to be L2 fodder this season and will end up relegated again
