Southend United are STAYING UP....That's Official

Where’s all this been actually confirmed?

It an opinion but a strong one based on the clear advice/statement by the medical experts advising the government that the outbreak in the UK will peak in mid June. As Greg Clarke has said people can be in denial and pretend differently if it helps them transition to the inevitable, but you have to be quite some optimist to believe there will be football in the UK in June or the Euros happening.

I have to agree we won't be seeing football till after June but postponing the Euros till 2021 gives hope to those of us who want to see this season completed. Greg Clarke gave his opinion but it isn't necessarily shared by the top officials at The PL and EFL.

I suspect we'll see football from mid-May to late June. 8 games remaining. Or they'll just adjust the total with a points per game total for the remaiining games and just have the playoffs

even with this there is a problem, Wycombe have a game in hand over everyone in the playoffs which if they win they will be third. so are they going to be in the playoffs or not?

There is no easy answer to a half finished season, either they find a way to finish it or they void it with all the associated consequences

Why rush to make a decision. We have until August to play 9 games. If the players have had 3 months off they could play those games as late as July/August.

Yes their contracts are out in June but they will all be happy to take the pay whilst not playing so can stay on for a month.

No cups, no playoffs......Still have promotion and relegation, season tickets count, clubs make money and survive.

3 week break/preseason in August to sort out all transfers etc as their agents could actually earn their money this summer and have it all lined up.

Players would be fit and ready to go for a new season end of August.......Job done.

I admire your optimism Rigsby. And it needs a crystal ball to say when we start playing.
If the peak is mid June then perhaps it might just be possible to be playing mid late July- but all Aug would be needed to complete the season allowing for a some rearranged games because a squad member goes down with the virus necessitating the rest of the squad being isolated. 7 days gone each time. Hopefully this will be occasional because any greater frequency and it falls apart. So Sept at best becomes a shortened pre-season and the 20/21 season maybe begins in Oct. Can't see it. But who knows. Can't see it being left up in the air beyond May tbh but we will see.

There have been plenty of times teams have had a virus or food poisoning and carried on by isolating those affected by it......Better than cancelling a whole season.

What void the whole thing and start afresh in September and a couple of players catches it in October..........Abandon another whole season?

the problem with this whole situation is that everything is unknown, even the mortality rate coming from the WHO is heavily skewed by one region of one country. that said if the rate is true nearly 2 Million people in this country will die from this virus, to put that into perspective 165,000 people died from cancer in the UK in 2017.

promotion and relegation seem a little bit insignificant when it's put in those terms but life must continue for those that survive and for a lot of people football is a significant part of that.

2 million people will die? Honestly, where is this info coming from? So many “facts” being floated about..

the WHO have a death rate of 3.4% of cases and we have 67million people in the UK, if that death rate is accurate (which it probably isn't) and everyone in the UK gets infected then 2Million is the estimate.

There is not a good solution to this so no point looking for one- we can’t compare the situation to food poisoning where those that have it don’t play and those that don’t have it do. You have this and it’s everyone into quarantine for 7 days. You’re right there might be a risk even in Oct- but on an entirely reduced and more manageable scale.
The peak is expected mid-June so if someone has a solution it would be most useful if it was built around that assumption.
Of course as with Trump and others we can fall back on the “all experts are wrong mantra” but i’m Not sure that’s gone so great so far. Happily it’s not us having to make the decisions..

Hard to see any positives in all this. How would you we feel if we were liverpool

No one has the solution but cancelling a whole season 36 games because of what might happen, is an assumption in its self.

Its not difficult for the FA to just extend the April 3rd date, so why the need to decide by Thursday.

I remember back in 1987 when the world was panicking about aides.....We were told quite clearly by experts and those in authority that by the year 2000 every family would have lost someone to Aides.
