The KL keeper was one Norman Coe, who three seasons earlier featured for Northampton in the First Division (the old top flight!)
There was a healthy away following in the East Stand, who were silenced after two minutes, and the first goal!
That picture is about five years out of date mate. Lovely new seated stand in that area now. Still, it suits the agendaThis offers a clue...
Yes, was there at Lower Mead in Harrow that day for the Cup tie.Incidentally, we at wealdstone look forward to welcoming you Shrimpers to Grosvenor Vale on august 30... only faced you once before, at our old Lower Mead ground in the FA Cup back in 79. Anton Otulakowski got the only goal I believe. If anybody fancies telling a tale of Southend devotion I’d love to use it in the Stones programme for the the game. And I’ll send you a copy! Email me at Tim.fparks@gmail.com
Great stuff Chris Powell’s mate! You’re right about Walker scoring the goal, my bad. Please send me an email cos I’d like to ask for some more memories and current viewsYes, was there at Lower Mead in Harrow that day for the Cup tie.
It seemed strange Stones have played anywhere but Wealdstone since 1922!
The lone scorer on November 24, 1979, was actually John Walker in the second half I think, and a scrambled effort at the other end to me!
My one contribution was to hold out my hands to stop an onrushing Colin Morris from charging into the barrier and over it behind one goal!
The Southend shirt of that season 79/80 is now a popular retro shirt, and here is a pic of some Blues players from that game, including Walker, presenting a cheque to legend Alan Moody in 2017.
PS. After retiring, Walker joined Essex Police and rose to the rank of chief inspector in Rayleigh!
The club have certainly provided the fixture downloads to calendars in previous seasons so we will just have to wait and see I suppose.Does anyone know if there’s an ical download for them or does that technology stop once you drop out of the league?
Looks good. Tim any idea of roughly how many tickets we'll get. This is what that end of Grosvenor Vale looks like now... and it’s the away end
Just looked in my phone and because I subscribed to the iCal last time the fixtures are already there. I didn’t have to do anything. The club have certainly provided the fixture downloads to calendars in previous seasons so we will just have to wait and see I suppose.
It’s not bad for a part-time tinpot club! I believe 600 is the maximum if its all ticket, but more likely to be segregated giving Southend a third of the ground - probably around 1,300. Will you bring that many?Looks good. Tim any idea of roughly how many tickets we'll get.
