Exactly. I can't remember half of these players having one decent game.Let's see if we can get a whole team then.
So far, in goal the only nomination has been Brian Lloyd. He was the keeper when I first started supporting in 1969, but I was only 8 and don't remember if he was good or bad.
Maybe a better fit for this role might be Paul Smith, who pulled off a world class goalkeeping performance away at Brentford, way above anything else he (or many other keepers) ever did. He was incredible that night.
I think that's the criteria, isn't it? The player has to have had a blinding game or two that suddenly makes everyone think that there is a real player in there, but the rest of the time was just meh...
And all joking aside, none of this is to in any way insult our previous players, all of whom I'm sure tried their best.
We haven't got many defenders on this thread... but other names (for me) that fit the bill are
Gordon Connelly
Steven Clark
Barrington Belgrave
Neil Campbell
Tony Richards
The challenge is to come up with a name that you can back up a proper performance with and that enough people on here agree with.
The winner no less.Mark Salter. Scored once against Orient, I believe.
CorrectChristian Hyslop.
Warren was a good defender that's unfair.
When did he have one decent game? He played one game and was terrible.Liam Ridgewell
Think this is the most recent example. He tore Oxford a new one and was involved in all 3 goals. Then did nothing for the rest of that loan spell. Came back for a second loan spell and did nothing then as well.Warren was a good defender that's unfair.
Jamar Loza was excellent on the telly then absolute gash.
I think Kevin Gray (Wayne’s cousin) shades him but it’s a close run thing and only one of those had a pro deal, the other was just helping out in a friendly. He, 100%, never had a decent minute for Southend United, let alone a good half or full game.
Hands down, the worst “footballer” I’ve ever seen.
