Every crap SUFC player has had one decent game...

Let's see if we can get a whole team then.

So far, in goal the only nomination has been Brian Lloyd. He was the keeper when I first started supporting in 1969, but I was only 8 and don't remember if he was good or bad.

Maybe a better fit for this role might be Paul Smith, who pulled off a world class goalkeeping performance away at Brentford, way above anything else he (or many other keepers) ever did. He was incredible that night.

I think that's the criteria, isn't it? The player has to have had a blinding game or two that suddenly makes everyone think that there is a real player in there, but the rest of the time was just meh...

And all joking aside, none of this is to in any way insult our previous players, all of whom I'm sure tried their best.

We haven't got many defenders on this thread... but other names (for me) that fit the bill are

Gordon Connelly
Steven Clark
Barrington Belgrave
Neil Campbell
Tony Richards

The challenge is to come up with a name that you can back up a proper performance with and that enough people on here agree with.
Exactly. I can't remember half of these players having one decent game.

Warren was a good defender that's unfair.

Yeah before he joined us. Sadly his achilles (?) had gone so his pace and his spring in the air had gone and he was a complete liability. Still we’ll always have that moment v Swansea.

What about Ben Lewis? Scored on his debut and helped keep a clean sheet but soon exposed as way out of his depth.

Jamar Loza was excellent on the telly then absolute gash.
Think this is the most recent example. He tore Oxford a new one and was involved in all 3 goals. Then did nothing for the rest of that loan spell. Came back for a second loan spell and did nothing then as well.

He, 100%, never had a decent minute for Southend United, let alone a good half or full game.

Hands down, the worst “footballer” I’ve ever seen.
I think Kevin Gray (Wayne’s cousin) shades him but it’s a close run thing and only one of those had a pro deal, the other was just helping out in a friendly.

Really looking forward to Naps proving his theory right by coming up with Rio’s good game.

I will give you two:
The first is a real blast from the past....in August 1961 I was on holiday staying at my grandmother's in Benfleet when I watched The Blues play a pre season friendly which they won 1-0. As I remember scoring the only goal and wearing 9 was a guy called Norman Bleanch. He had just been signed on a free transer from Man U and looked a real handful that day as he was both strong and good in the air.
He played the following week against Bradford in a game we won 2-1, and, once again, to my fifteen year old eye looked decidedly useful. Returning home a few days later that was the last I saw of Southend that season. To my amazement Bleanch was gone after three games (back to Northern Ireland I think).
In August or September 1979 I was back in the UK for a few months and The Blues were playing Brentford in a midweek League Cup tie in Griffin Park. Yes, it was back in the day when we were a bigger club than Brentford!
We won 4-2, and, as I remember Colin Morris dazzled on the wing and a striker Tuohy looked the goods in scoring two smart goals (one a diving header?).
I left Griffin Park sure that we had unearthed a gem who would score stacks of goals for us before being sold onwards and upwards to a top side.
It seems that was the best he ever played for us.

Three pages and no one has mentioned Chris Ramsey yet. For me the worst player to have worn the shirt by a country mile. Was relieved when he head butted someone and never played for us again. How he played in a cup final I’ll never know.
