Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
Hmm not sure that squad gets near the top 3 which is surely what we are aiming for. We need a better front 4 (no, I'd not replace all 4!) - more pace needed, someone who isn't frightened of putting their laces through it when they have a half chance. I think we need a couple of additions in MF as well, plus a couple of CB's (Innis/Golding would do, or similar - big physical lads). Gubbins/Crowther are back up options IMO and I think Goodliffe will go. We need squad depth, could be permanent could be loans .. but we need competition .. nobody being 1st name on the team sheet.
Well that has bowled everybody a googly...A post full of commonsense.

I think one of the most important things next year is find out where Leon is happiest playing and build from there. Proper player there and we need to extract everything we can! Maybe him in behind a front two with kaf and Morton a little deeper. Dreamy if you ask me. Certainly need a keeper. Even if you give Collin the shirt back with an experience pro as number 2. Hayes isn't the one for us unfortunately. We also need a big ****house central defender like an innis. Goodliffe big no thank you. Someone that's going to put there head on everything and send it back the other way. Bonne I can take or leave. Not gonna get the goals but surprisingly liked among the fan base and does work hard! Wouldn't be surprised to see crowther and Walker up for transfer. Neither good enough. Maybe include gubbins in that too. Lots for the boys to sort it seems

I don't, for a minute, dispute anyone's comments on here so far. But I'd just like to put this out there:

Without improving the quality of the players on our books we managed to qualify for the 24/25 NL Play-offs, we then managed to see off the 3rd and 5th placed teams in the Play-Off places and were eventually only beaten in the second half of extra time with a goal that could be viewed as extremely flukey.

Just saying. And yes, we would still benefit from some extra recruitment, but don't undersell the players we already have.
We currently have a group that you would expect to get to the 4th to 7th positions. Where you need to win 3 playoff matches that as we saw are pretty much 50/50 affairs- that gives a one in eight chance of promotion statistically. That may well be fine ambition wise and we may be prepared to be very patient. Finish 2nd or 3rd your chances double to one in four. Finish top it’s guaranteed- thats the NL for you.

So I would argue you need to at least make sure of the top three in you can. So if you don’t go up automatically you at least get a home tie against a club that finished below you to get to Wembley. Top three would require investment to be very confident of getting there.

I don't see this as being probable in the slightest, but Inniss would be an unreal signing. I can't find the duration of his FGR contract anywhere (signed in 2023), but it wouldn't surprise me if he did depart New Lawn; his post-match interview against us seemed to leave all options open...
Regrettably I think he is under contract. So would require a fee and I suspect he is at least as overpaid as a number of other member of their squad. But if he was desperate to get back to the south east for personal reasons who knows- but he is L2 standard…

I think you’re correct, we are still way off those teams, we’d be looking at replacing half of the starting lineup.

Gus will most-likely go back to scoring 5 -10 a season and will just become a pretty defensively limited player who chips in with a few. Love the guy but I reckon he gets carved up in League Two.

If I’m being honest I’d take someone of Harry Taylor’s tackling ability in the Rwb spot rather than someone who chips in with goals, as we’ve been opened up down his side a lot.

I’d like to mainly invest in 2 decent quality traditional centre-mids to play alongside KAF. I don’t think our striking options are actually that bad, it’s just we rarely have enough quality in the middle to make use of them.
We don’t have forwards who will score goals come what may. Pepple could score even without service as he could create for himself. That’s what we need and don’t have- unfortunately they also cost ££ generally- but let’s see who we can magic up

Could we entice a striker that is proven in this league, Creaney Tamworth? Mani
Dieseruvwe Hartlepool? Haughton Fylde? Rodney Rochdale? Davies Sutton Utd? Surely knowing our fan base and ambitions it's gotta be better than playing for some of the above sides?

Some speculative names I don't think have been mentioned but it might be worth to take a look at:
CB: Chinwike Okoli (Millwall), Alex Giles (Gillingham), Temi Eweka (Maidstone), Jamie Fielding (Tonbridge)
LWB: Connor Wood (Tranmere), Jaydn Mundle Smith (Wealdstone)
ST: Ruben Bartlett Antwi (Leatherhead), Jahmari Clarke (Yeovil), Tyrell Sellars-Fleming (Hull, would be a loan)

Any interest in Tshimanga again?
Released by Peterborough so a free agent. And 11 in 33 in L2 on loan. And free agent. We sometimes imagine that a goalscoring forward available on a free is a fill your boots opportunity- it often but for the player. He will want silly money and likely get it.

if you seek “value” you often can’t afford the striker if he is free agent- and can’t afford him if he isn’t. Regrettably.

I don't think we should be keeping Bonne. We have enough 'strikers' under contract who are not goal scorers. We should free up the budget to try and sign someone who can put the ball in the net. Easier said than done of course, Strikers score goals for other teams, move on and it doesn't happen plus the reverse is sometimes true. Striking partnerships are also important and, when they work, are a joy to watch. It's a lottery but I feel it's all well and good saying this player holds the ball up well, is good at the ****housery etc.etc. but we need goals. Doubt GSM will get another 17. Please free up the budget to take a punt on someone who will put away the chances in front of goal.
