Transfer news
We don’t have forwards who will score goals come what may. Pepple could score even without service as he could create for himself. That’s what we need and don’t have- unfortunately they also cost ££ generally- but let’s see who we can magic up
I don't think we should be keeping Bonne. We have enough 'strikers' under contract who are not goal scorers. We should free up the budget to try and sign someone who can put the ball in the net. Easier said than done of course, Strikers score goals for other teams, move on and it doesn't happen plus the reverse is sometimes true. Striking partnerships are also important and, when they work, are a joy to watch. It's a lottery but I feel it's all well and good saying this player holds the ball up well, is good at the ****housery etc.etc. but we need goals. Doubt GSM will get another 17. Please free up the budget to take a punt on someone who will put away the chances in front of goal.

My thinking precisely - if either Hopper or Walker were out of contract I’d get rid of them and keep Bonne, but given the situation we’re in I think we need his wages to be spent on a proper goalscorer

I wouldn't keep any of the strikers with the possible exception of Kendall. I know they aren't all out of contract but none of them have proven to be a consistent goal threat. We need more.

Heard a rumour today supposedly from a member of staff! Chinese whispers does make me laugh. Ryan Leonard if we had got back into League 2 would have wanted to sign for us! I say if this is true then push the boat out and get him to help us get to league 2
One of my favourite Southend players in nearly 40 years of supporting the club. I believe he was watching on at Wembley along with another superb ex-player, Taylor Moore. A couple of players with half their ability would probably be an upgrade! :Winking:

Find this hard to believe but even so it's wound me up more that we lost 😞

Yes, I’m sure he would have moved down two divisions, from a team who just missed out on the Championship Play-Off’s, where he was voted Player Of The Season a year ago, to join us in League 2.

Oh and he also would have been more than happy to have taken a £10,000 a week pay cut at the same time 👍

I was told some time ago he would love to play for Southend again before he hangs up his boots I’m not sure how old he is

Thanks. That’s not a bad assessment.

Personally I’d have Crowther as RCB rather than a CCB and look to sign a second CCB.

I’m not sure they have all those midfield roles correctly assigned either and I’d add another targetman as well because Hopper isn’t going to be able to press for 90 minutes every game.

But they seem good realistic targets and they make a good point about the experienced core allowing us to recruit some younger players.

Maybe such analysis exists in L1 and L2 but I’m genuinely impressed by the knowledge of the NL by some of these amateur pundits. It seems much better covered than L1 or L2.

we missed out on promotion by a fluke 10 minutes from the end. clearly we need to rip it all up and start again. and the owners need to put loads of money in, but can't charge any more for season tickets.

one big thing for me is we need a left footer on the left. Bridge is too isolated out there since Wes left, so we need an alternative. Leon for me can play that Wes role, imagine him and Bridge inter-changing with Ralph on the overlap. Moist.

but the thing is what it has been all season. there's not enough goals in the team. buy em, coach em, promote em from the youth, whatever you need to do, get us some goals up top.

and we need a centre centre back. and that decision is beyond massive. he needs to be good in the air, a leader, mobile, quick enough, score a few goals, bring the ball out from the back, pass well, and be good defensively. and affordable to a 5th tier team. ideally two, in case one gets injured. that's asking a lot
