There are rumours on our site (Bristol City) that you are getting our defender Taylor Moore on loan. He can play CB or RB and is a former England U20s captain. He spent last season on loan at Cheltenham.

We have high hopes for him as he cost over £1M from Lens in France

Sounds ideal for us if true

We seem to like to build relationships with clubs who will take multiple players from us as it helps the young players settle.

Last year Cheltenham had 3 players and this year Newport have 3. If Taylor moves to you then obviously you now have two.

BTW, I did enjoy your win last week.

Not against loans entirely but certainly not 5 for example. Yes Shrewsbury had a good season from the loan system but May well pay the price this term.

When Dru comes back and finally gets his first goal won’t we be miles more delighted than if he were from Spurs academy.

One thing I have been convinced since that idiot Ranger departed was we need a proper number, good in the air, 9. Theo would profit the most from such a player and you need at times direct goals....look at Swindon at home 1-1 a couple of years ago as an example.

A specialist like that doesn’t come cheap so the best way would be a loan. Even then as CP find out with that lad from Stoke, it’s not that easy.

Agree with you on the loan system and the need for someone with some aerial prowess but loanees tend to be kids and that's the role least suited to a kid - just think of Nathaniel Jarvis, Jack Sampson etc.

Will be tricky to pick someone up who can back-up Hopper.

Agreed. There is obviously the odd gem from the loan system but other people’s academy seems to not produce much value for us.

Rather have a Mantom or a McL, players who have good experience and we could sign in the summer. Sort of Try before you buy.

There's occasional value to be had (remember Assambalonga), but it's one year only value. It's a sticking plaster rather than a long term solution.

Remember how we kept recycling through loan left-backs under Tilly - Mulgrew, Friend, Harding etc without ever solving the position? Mulgrew was total class, Harding was a really good player, Friend didn't realise his potential until later. We still hadn't solved the position by the time we were relegated.

Whereas I love a try before you buy. It's low risk whether it's a Ladapo, that guy we got from Cheltenham(?) who scored on his debut but never really did anything afterwards and we backed out of signing him or at the other end of the scale Freddy Eastwood. Someone like McLaughlin was a cracking signing and has locked down his position for 3 years. I'm pretty sure Taylor Moore, whilst he may help us, isn't going to do that for us.

Yes, I was thinking of Assambalonga when I said gem.

Freddy actually scared me because we seemed to be dithering instead of signing. Obviously there was a big bun involving several clubs.....Didn’t seem like it at the time.

That's all well and good but who was that loanee forward I was thinking of? Tall, lithe, decent turn of pace but didn't seem all that interested.

so that's the summer window over again, overall I think we've managed to improve the squad compared to this time last year.

is the squad good enough to go up? our midfield is incredibly strong (when all fit), at the back I think we look okay not brilliant but not too bad. my main concern is upfront. Hopper has been a revelation and has exceeded my expectations thus far however theo and cox are still a bit hit and miss this season, the biggest loss i think has been MAF.

Phew, found him. Tyrone Barnett. Dodged a bullet with him. Had all the tools but lacked the hunger.

Now, what were we talking about?

You confused me with the not all that interested bit....On forwards I had just narrowed it down to a top 50

When Barnett made his debut at Posh he won all 10/10 from his headers and really looked the part. Yet another, who has to work hard to be that lazy.

Wow what a transfer widow that was!

An unheard of 247 deals were done in total ( averaging 10+ per team +. That must be a record, Why so many? answers on a postcard

The breakdown-----------

Bought----54 Loans-----90 Freebies------- 103

For the first time frees narrowly beat loans, the latter picking up frantically in the last 6 weeks. Increasingly clubs are taking the loan option and some of them are looking more like "feeder clubs" in the process. Accrington are loanee kings with 7, especially from Newcastle and Walsall enjoy loaning in from Wolves.

Approx 22% of all signings were purchases, nearly all for undisclosed fees. Peterborough the money?business entrepreneurs of the league paid for NINE 9 , Shrewsbury coughed up for 7 and Bradford and Coventry bought NINE between them. The scooges not spending a dime were Rochdale, Fleetwood, Burton and Charlton

Why were so many players signed up this year?
How come so many loanees?
Has the myth that if you bring in a load of players you fail, been shattered> look whose top !

Not one club this year going large like Bury land Port Vale previously. FOURTEEN clubs brought in 10 or more players !!!!

The Final Table of transfers =

I need a life

Interesting stats Barry. I am of the beleive that it’s who rather than how many.
If we had released 15 players we wouldn’t have the buying power of Posh. We wouldn’t have the wage budget that CP had at Charlton when he bought in Title winning players.

The first job for CP this summer was to retain the right players....Ladapo, Wordsworth and McG were rightly released. Timlin and MAF had served us well but not worth another deal.

Keeping Ox, Turner, Cox and sining Mantom full time was excellent business.

The injuries to Barrett and Lennon have been unlucky so we don’t yet know.

Deing definitely looks the part and Hopper has had a great start, So even those that dismissed him on last seasons goal stats are now changing their mind.

We need to see more oh Hyam, his recent injury record is a worry. But he clearly has the skills and game management we will need. For those of you that think did he do much, I saw him win a tackle by reacting sharp and nonchalantly flicking over the guys foot going past him and playing a good pass. I was thinking for Timlin that would have been a crunching 50/50. Of course we all like one of those but if you want to end going places we need a bit more of the Hyam over Timlin.

With 3 new CM’s and in some ways similar we can’t really judge until Dru makes a return. Clearly their has been a set back which CP wouldn’t have been expecting and he will take game time to get back to last seasons levels.

So what I’m saying is forget your 15 signings or your 7 in on loan. We haven’t fully started yet but I’m backing our lads to do well this season....we shall see.

given our lack of players available over the next few games I wonder if we might see some out of contract players come in on trial as has happened in the past?

Mind you I've got no idea who's available....
