given the game gets wiped out, and supporters were therefore watching a meaningless event, the option of a full refund is really the only FAIR solution

Sadly, I wouldn't imagine anyone would get anywhere by taking legal action. The fact that no-one looked at the charter before buying the ticket isn't Aldershot's fault. They are the T&C's they operate and if you don't agree with them, don't buy a ticket.

As we've only played them a handful of times in the last 25 or so years the lack of goodwill against some travelling fans isn't going to bother them too much.

Unfortunately, the fact that there were problems known before the match also doesn't hold much sway in my opinion. If they didn't play the match because the floodlights might not be working properly, they'd have thousands of angry fans on their doorstep moaning that they didn't even try to play the game. It's a no-win for them really.

Please note I'm not defending Aldershot, just putting an impartial view as to why disgruntled SUFC supporters may be wasting their time trying to get their money back.

Also sadly, I think you are right. However I will still send emails complaining and putting across my point of view that they were wrong to sell tickets on the gate when they knew there was a problem - they could at least have offered me the option. But I will not be investing any more money in legal action or the like.

Just a thought though: If you went to the Cliffs Pavilion, bought your tickets and half way through the show was stopped because the lights failed - how would you feel if they said "we have been having problems all day with the lights, never mind came back next week and watch it for half price"?

"They are making Geoffrey King look like a Customer Service Specialist."

LOL

Didn't the tickets say Aldershot v Shrewsbury on them as well?

Which surely means all rules & reg's are null an void for our match as well, as it was not a VALID ticket?

Agree that this is about principle and not the money.

Fact is that the problem was known before the game so it was not an 'unforseen' circumstance and therefore they would be unable to claim under under contingency insurance policy that they have.

Their actions in allowing the game to start, whilst knowing that there is a major problem and that they would not be refunding any admission costs is in my opinion - fraud.

I think that this is a time to act collectively - hopefully through the Trust, and to bring a Class Action against Aldershot on behalf of ALL the Southend fans.

Would the Trust be willing to do that?

We are currently working on a letter to Aldershot, and will also be contacting both the FSF (Football Supporters Federation) and SD (Supporters Direct) of which the Trust are Members of and have good contacts in.
The letter will also be copied to the FL, and SUFC.

We are unsure if there are any grounds for a class action, but we suggest in the first instance to wait and see what response we receive from Aldershot.

Can anyone either scan or take a picture of the Tickets issued at the game and email to info@shrimperstrust.co.uk

I've sent a pic of mine over. It's not one of the 'Shrewsbury' tickets but there are no terms and conditions on the reverse which is unusual.

There would not have been any refund had they postponed the game either.

I can see your point mate. But, I'm sure the players would back such actions from the fans.

At least our charter allows any fan entering Roots Hall the option of clawing back 50% of the ticket money, if the game were to be abandoned.

There will probably be a few hundred who will not be able to make the return fixture now, due to work commitments etc. So they have had a real kick in the nuts. And those that can make the return fixture have to pay another 50% again on top of what they already paid. Plus of course the travel and food/drink costs etc. Disgusting if you ask me and I think our fans should send a message to Aldershot that this is not on. The only way to do that, is by not giving them anymore money. An abusive email will get no reaction at all. Our fans, along with Aldershots have been hit in the pocket. The club themselves should also get a taste of their own medicine.

I wonder if any Shots fans would also consider a boycott?

Sure will and perhaps to the end of season unless offered a complete refund. If they offer the match at half price to ANYONE on the night of the rescheduled match that will make it worse and will be the final straw for me.I think if the club went ahead with the game knowing there was any chance it could be called off then it is quite despicable behaviour and immoral. I'm sure there will be more developments on this issue. A fair solution may still be emerge.

Interesting. Perhaps the Shrimpers & Shots fans should unite on this matter...

I personally think that Southend should charge 2 or 3 times the normal ticket price on March 20th for away fans

How come it's the Aldershot fans fault - they have been hit in the pocket as well - agree with Smiffy that it should be 'fans united' on this, irrelevant of which club you support.
