Brown provides pre-season update from Spain
5 July 2017
Boss really pleased with pre-season work as Blues prepare for the new season in Spain.
Blues Boss Phil Brown flew his players to warmer climates for the first week of pre-season last Friday.
The squad, which included a handful of U21 players, have been preparing for the start of the new Sky Bet League One season in the Mediterranean heat on the coast of Spain.
And Brown is happy with the work they have done in their first week back and said they are ahead of schedule at this stage.
“Everyone has reported back in good shape,” he said.
“I’ve said this already, but they’re a very conscientious group and we’re ahead of schedule at the moment.
“We’re planning for our first 45 minutes which will be tomorrow against each other with a view towards 45 minutes against Partick Thistle, but everybody is in good shape.
“The footballs were involved from day one but we’ve tested them. We’ve done the body fat tests, the body composition tests, both the aerobic and anaerobic tests.
“They give you a baseline to start from but we moved straight into the balls because everyone had looked after themselves over the summer.”
Not only is pre-season a chance for players to get up to speed and the manager to put ideas across, but also a chance for some of the younger members at the club to impress.
Brown said Dru Yearwood is one who has certainly caught the eye.
“The interesting part as well is the young lads,” he added.
“We brought a few of the under 21’s over and they’re showing signs there are possibilities that they might be involved in the first team squad right the way through pre-season which is music to everybody’s ears.
“Dru Yearwood has more than impressed as an 18-year-old coming here behind the U21’s just. He’s impressed that much that he’s jumped ahead of one or two of them, if not all of them.
“But he has to maintain that. You can’t just do that in one or two training sessions, you’ve got to do it on a consistent basis to get the respect of the first team players, which he has done.
“He’s done ever so well, as have the rest of them.
“It’s been difficult for them all but it’s been a productive start to pre-season in the first few days we’ve been in Spain.”
