Atmosphere at Roots Hall - Part Two

to be completely honest i don't really think we can blame the acoustics for the atmosphere. fair enough because of this chants may not always be as loud as we would like but it doesn't change the fact that not many people sing. the west are trying their hardest and thats why i will be moving there next season. the south centre and try their best along with a few at each end but i sit in between goal and corner and the atmosphere between there is terrible. great great view but everyone is more interesting in chatting than cheering. all i ever hear is moaning groaning etc. someone in this thread has already mentioned that we are very near the top and if that can't get us cheering then what can. We have not been playing anywhere near as good as we all know we can but at least we havn't been losing every game. instead drawing a few and grinding out wins such as yesterday. this is a sign of a very good team that can win when not playing well! not a bad habit to have.

the blue voice is such a good idea and full credit to the organisers but it doesn't just have to be the west who can sing. east need to get going and also the rest of the west stand. south try their best but large amount of people up there are only their for the view.

I think when the bass drum comes the atmosphere should improve such as it did at oxford. the two drummers there really got everyone going. it's time to show just how passionate we are about our club and show everyone else this. we do it every single away game. why not make roots hall a place like elland road etc etc.

The main problem is that people are shy to get involved in the chanting. If you chant more than likely or hopefully others will join in. Its time to make roots hall a place to be feared to come to.

Well said matty. On the drum front there is a big bass drum waiting to be played at RH, we just need someone to bash it over in the west every game and really get the atmosphere going.

Any takers?

This position needs filling urgently, its a major part of TBV's plans.

Any leaders amongst us who want to play a major part in sorting the poor atmosphere out?

Show yourself please...

I dont think it fair to say the atmosphere is that bad. People have to join in and its getting those people round to the idea of not sitting there in silence and joining in. I am not a singing leader but we join in most of the time and do our bit. Yes it feels a bit stupid at times but unless more people join in we will always struggle to increase the volume within the whole of the ground.

So its just that more need to join in but dont expect the sound to be great, because we cant change the accoustics in the ground.

That's the problem. The West block near the away fans is the only area where everyone sings. Everywhere else its quiet and individual people don't want to embarass themselves by singing on their own. Where I sit I'm surrounded by old gits who never sing and if I join in with a chant I'm on my own. And as you said, a lot of the chants they don't know. Ah well, it's the same at most grounds.

This is why the ole, ole, ole, ole, Leeeeeeeeeeeon, Leeeeeeeeeeon is so good. If people cant join in with that one.

The thing is if people keep joining in, even if its one or two more people around then it will make a difference. If nothing else those "old gits" will look even more miserable when everyone around them is singing and it will be them that feels stupid not the rest of us.

Keep the singing going.....its not the x factor so who cares if you cant sing....the idea is to add atmosphere and inspire the team.....

It is definitely getting better......I think its great......:D

If you can get a cheap TBV subsidised block booking on easyJet going or finally persuade FlyBE to introduce the promised Glasgow - London Southend route, I'm your man! :p

Firstly I must say that I think TBV is a great and beginning to work really well. I sit in the East Stand Red, and for the first 20 -30mins on Wednesday against Huddersfield the East Stand began to wake up. There were a good proportion, for the first time, that ignored the odd stray pass and actually supported the lads. So a massive improvement.

I think I might have a theory as to why the usual behaviour resumed. This is not a critisism of anyone, so please do not take any offence. The East began to slow and resume normal service after a few too many chants of "We're the East Stand..." Whilst there was a good variety of chants going on then all was well. If you guys from TBV in the East could try to mix it up a bit then I think you might awaken the sleeping giant that could be the East Stand.

I try till I am blue in the ****ing face thanks!!!

One problem is that the sngers in the West arent in the best place.

The singing section should be more central so that it inspires more people around them to join in.

With them all up one end I rarely hear them from the South East of the stand.

No much that can be done about that at Roots Hall but the location at Fossetts Farm needs to be done better, behind one goal opposite the away fans is the obvious place.

We will be asking for fans views on what they want from FF to help improve the atmosphere nearer the time.

The main point being where a singing section should be located at FF.

In the mean time, please come and join us in the West stand and lets try and up the noise levels at RH.

On the half way line please. I want to sing and have a good view of the game.

Sir, as the post said, I was not levelling any sort of criticism at anyone far from it because I actually believe in what you guys are trying to achieve. I firmly believe that during the match whatever the state of play on the pitch, which I appreciate is sometimes difficult, we should be supporting and encouraging the team. The negativity shown by many in the East to the stray passes and players mistakes, attitude etc is in no way helpful. When you start things I am also singing up as much as I can.

TrueBlue I was actually trying to be helpful, however, I will keep my thoughts to myself in future.

Equally we should appreciate that it wont change overnight. We have to keep trying. The Hall has been quiet for a while so we need to try and get people to just join in. Its definitely spreading throughout the ground and as little pockets of people join in suddenly the quiet people will be in a minority and feel compelled to join in.

Dont wait for FF, do it now....

Lets all give it a real go tomorrow chaps.

Sing up Southend!

I agree Chelmer.I'm up the back of East Reds by the press box and i hear alot of people groaning in front of me when that chant went up for the umpteenth time.

End of the day,it's a Spurs song and should not be sung is what most feel.
I try to latch onto what True Blue is singing at the far end because otherwise you look a **** singing and chanting on your own.

Saying that,we are very partisan to our team when we see an injustice.I mean,in our section the ref gets lambasted regularly, the linesman near us kops it on a full-time basis and god help the opposition manager in front of us that dares to step into his "area" and shout instructions:D

There's 3 seats always empty next to me bacause they are classed as "restricted legroom"(and they're right) all along the back row,so i positively encourage anyone from Blue Voice to join me and awaken the sleeping giant that is the East stand, standing room only of course;)

Sing up Southend!

That's the spirit Smiffy !

I'll shout at you from the SSU and you can shout back at me from block V .

Hopefully a few more will latch on , on the way .

BTW , no room for BW's drum in the SSU so you're going to have to learn how to play it :) :)

One thing that I felt really didn't help us in the west on Saturday was the stewards. Whenever more people began to join in people were told to "sit down or you'll be thrown out" "sit down you're on camera" "sit down sit down etc etc etc". Am i not correct in thinking that blocks V & W were going to be let off re standing as long as it didn't get out of hand??
