Barrett's Banter: Bring on the cup
IT’S the return of the FA Cup for us this weekend and I personally cannot wait to play.
I’m an old traditionalist where this competition is concerned and I really do think it’s still something special.
When I was a kid we all grew up dreaming of playing in the FA Cup and the day of the final was a real family occassion.
We would all crowd round the television and I used to love it.
I still get a buzz from playing in it now and, after losing in the first round of the other two cup competitions we’ve been in this year, it would be nice to have a good run in this one.
The dream is obviously to go on and be drawn against one of the top teams but before that we have to deal with AFC Telford which is certainly not going to be easy.
We know we are the favourites but they are on a great run of form at the moment and will be really up for causing an upset.
We will be making a few changes because most of our on loan players can’t play and the lads coming in will be wanting to show they should still in more regularly.
But the most important thing is to have the right attitude and approach and if we do everything correctly then we should have enough about us to go through.
FEDERICI'S SCHOOLBOY ERROR
OUR goalkeeper Adam Federici made what you would call a schoolboy error at the training ground this week - he challenged the gaffer to a table-tennis match.
The manager even offered Feds a 10-0 head-start but he turned it down and was confident he could win without any help whatsoever.
To be fair Feds is a good player but I don’t think he really knew what he was coming up against.
Whoever lost had to pay £50 into the players pool and needless to say the manager absolutely wiped the floor with Feds.
All the lads were watching and I think he was a little bit shocked by just how good the gaffer was!
I don’t think he will be challenging him to any more matches again and if he does he will certainly be asking for a head-start!
THE FRENCH DON'T DRESS TO IMPRESS!
OUR Frenchmen, Francis Laurent and Jean-Francois Christophe, have been doing brilliantly for us just lately.
But their fashion sense has to be seen to be believed.
Jeff (Christophe) came in this week with a white hoody tracksuit which had blue writing scribbled all over it.
And on top of that he had a brown leather jacket.
It was appalling and it’s not the only item of his clothing which has been hung up in the shower room.
It’s all good fun and he does try to join in with the banter but right now he really doesn’t have a leg to stand on!
Jeff has also been getting a bit of stick about claiming our third goal in Saturday’s game with Colchester.
He was quite sheepish about it at the time and, if you actually look at it again on video, the ball is back-healed into the goal by Pat Baldwin.
It has certainly been mentioned by the lads a few times in training and I think there were some fans closing to the ball than he was.
But good luck to Jeff it’s been credited to him and I’m sure it’s going to stay that way.
