To be fair all players look decent on YouTube! Pleased to see you come up by the way, went to your ground a few years back for a look around when up in the Lakes. Proper old-school ground, plus I hear some improvements are under way, new stand?

Layton Ndukwu looked ****e!

i get the waves as it's southend on sea and the shrimps that i'm guessing can be caught around there? The football is obvious - but what does the other bit represent?

Clearly not a cricket fan, as the three seaxes represent the county and T20 champions.

Fair play for having a dingbats question on your shirt though. Hummel please take note.

yes worth a weekend particularly if it's not in winter - the lake district is only half an hour away by car, there's the ruins of furness abbey, the dock museum, there's a zoo 3 miles away near Dalton in furness, there's the Laurel and Hardy museum in Ulverston (8 miles away) - Stan Laurel was from there.

We're in the Lake District in October. I'm hoping the away game will be whilst we're there. Failing that, I'd take Carlisle!

Worth making a weekend of Barrow? Know nothing about the area, apologies for my ignorance
Last time Southend played up there in Nov 71 , the coach travel was over night . I know one of the Southend supporters was so tied he did not get of the coach at 3 o clock and slept on the back seat till after the game , anyone remember who he was .

Dave Penney tried to redesign the reception.

The reception was never the problem for me.

It was constantly having to go up and down those stairs every 20 minutes, just to go for a fag. Particularly annoying after a skinfull.

Only went a few times.

On one occasion Steve Kavanagh shouted me up a couple of beers on the club card, which was good of him. I found out the casino would stick a few hundred on the card every month as a way of getting the players through the door.....Good for image and if a couple of then get hooked their quids in.

Never met Steve Kav, but I heard he was a nice bloke.

I watched the Haye-Klitschko fight in Gentings - or whatever it was called back then - in the little VIP area they had at the time, with the squad who had been to a charity event beforehand.

Ended up hammered playing blackjack with Blair Sturrock & I think, Sean Clohessy. Blair was a good lad.

Yes he certainly came across that way......Like all fans I have no idea how the negotiations really work but Steve ticked that box you would need in the football world....Tough but fair and approachable. Polite to fans but had an air of "Don't bother bending my ear over Ron" about him.....Your never going to be told anyway.

The way PB spoke they got on ok. PB would push him for a bit extra and Steve would look to see where it was needed and help as much as he could.
