Chester City face expulsion from the Football Conference

The Football Conference Board has confirmed it will recommend to its member clubs that Chester City be expelled from the competition.

Representatives of the Deva Stadium outfit met with the board today, a week after being suspended from the Conference, to respond to five charges relating to their failure to fulfil their fixtures against Forest Green and Wrexham, as well as attempting to prove that such a situation would not arise again.

A statement on the Football Conference website said: "At the conclusion of a lengthy meeting, the representatives were advised that the Board failed to be convinced with their presentation that the club were able to demonstrate the club's ability to fulfil future fixtures in the competition and as a consequence informed the club of their finding in relation to Conference Rule 8.6.

"In compliance with Article 5.2 of the Football Conference, the Board will recommend to its Member Clubs that Chester City (2004) FC should face expulsion from membership."

The Football Conference will now convene a general meeting of its member clubs to decide whether to endorse the recommendation. No date has yet been set, while Chester's suspension remains in place.

Chester were unable to field a team for their game at Forest Green after unpaid players refused to get on the team bus.

They were also forced to postpone Sunday's derby clash with Wrexham because the local authority issued a prohibition notice on the Deva Stadium after police refused to man the game over an unpaid bill.

They were handed a 25-point penalty after falling into administration last summer and currently lie 31 points adrift of safety.

They faced a winding-up order from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs last month but were handed a 42-day adjournment, and the club was also put up for sale for £1.

Ok there is another thread but without yesterdays update. Feel free to merge the threads or have it as a stand alone. I'm not fussed.

I do remember going to the Deva Stadium for the game in the 2004-5 season which finished as a 2-2 draw with Freddy scoring late on.

Always a shame to see a club suffer so badly at the hands of an inept few. The fans must be gutted.

Chester have now bought by some danes

Hope they know what there getting involved with.....

Confirmed this morning after a meeting in the salubrious surroundings of Nene Park, Rushden. Anyone who saw Stephen Vaughan's interview on Sky Sports News this week will know this was the only viable option.

So what that mean for them now, going out of business?

I think the supporters etc have being trying to form a supporters club for some time. The council seems to still want to support football in the area also, expect a re-branded sort of Chester City to begin life a few leagues down from where they are now at the beggining of next season
