Let's hope he gets seen to soon and that it's not the suspected worst case scenario.

But you make a good point and it's something more people will come to consider I think as this year progresses. As we seem to be in the final recovery stage from the initial crisis (touch wood) we do need to start paying attention to the other issues developing in the background.

My best wishes for your former step father in law ?

Thank you. I should have said that he's not seen a specialist AT ALL, just had it confirmed over the phone.

My daughter saw him in March and then again last weekend, when they drove up to visit, and even in that short space of time, the difference was marked.

That's really bad, it does seem like you have to shout the loudest to get heard at the moment. No discredit to the staff in the health service at all, they just need more numbers to cover the vast range of work required of them.

My granddad had a bad fall the other week, he was left in the hospital corridor on his own for hours without getting seen to. Once sent home, he was told that he would have a nurse visit his home to redress various cuts/wounds. Bear in mind he is getting on now, so any infected wound could cause him serious complications.

Three times the nurse hasn't turned up on the day and time stated. Every time it's taken hours on the phone and complaining to the poor person on the other end about something that isn't their fault.

Depends who you listen to. I have read that the vaccines only add up to 1.3% to the immune system. You take your pick and live with your choice.

Is there a full suite of options and their contribution to your immune system? Like, have the vaccine: +1.3%, drink ten pints: -4.6%, eat your greens: +0.8%, attend a Piers Corbyn march, -9.7%? It’ll be interesting to know so I can weigh everything up.

So it looks almost certain now that the final lifting of restrictions is going to be 'delayed' by at least four weeks - surprise, surprise. Despite most of the country being vaccinated and deaths and hospital admissions still being very low, and the vaccine clearly working against the latest variant. And then you can guess what will happen, they'll keep delaying until the autumn, when cases inevitably go up because of the usual season colds and flu, schools going back etc. and then back into lockdown for the winter. Rinse and repeat...

If course there is but I think you give too much credence to Piers.

No worse than your poo pooing of the vaccine.
I don't remember poo pooing it. I don't think it's necessary and I do wonder why people are clamouring for it, but as I said it is a personal choice. However I do object to the seemingly sanctimonious attitude of many who have been vaccinated against those who have declined. Furthermore it would be interesting to discover the true reasons why people have the vaccine.

The true reasons, hmmm, well you would need to ask 70+ million people individually. My reason was to better protect myself and those around me. I would imagine that profile would fit millions of others.

Most of the people in the UK aren't vaccinated, around 40% have received 2 jabs, with probably around 5 to 10% of those being in the last 2 weeks. So probably around 1 in 3 have maximum protection via vaccine.

In 4 weeks time I think you'll be correct that the majority of people will have been fully vaccinated.

I don't get the ulterior motive as to why the govt would want ongoing restrictions.

Chances of some supporters being back in grounds come August?

Personally think it'll be like in December with a limited amount and masks, social distancing being the norm for a while, plus the fact the jab rollout will be further down the line I think you'll either need to prove your jab status or provide a neg test.

The thought of another season behind closed doors is not a pretty thing to think about tbh

Think you'll find that only 52% of the Uk population have been fully vaccinated (ie twice) which is the key statistic here according to the Andrew Marr show earlier. That certainly doesn't add up to herd immunity to the Delta variant, which we're told is some 60%+ more infectious than other variants.

The vulnerable have all been jabbed (apart from those they don't want it) and the NHS is protected because less than 500 people under 50 have died from covid.

There is no reason to keep harsh restrictions other than to keep people in fear. Footballers can fly round the world for pointless friendlies yet I can't go to a friends funeral.

Thought funerals in the UK were restricted to 30% of capacity ? Certainly went to a good mate's funeral (my age) on that basis here back in January.

You seem to be ignoring the effect of hospitalisations in the NHS (granted figures for the new variant are not clear yet) in your first comment.

Only 500 damn. Were you hoping for more?
