18 pages and some truly OTT comments. Why couldn't contracts be sorted earlier? Well, that may really have depended a lot on which division we were going to be in. Why shouldn't the CEO go on holiday now? The poor man does have a family and it was half term last week, they sacrifice enough during the season, for goodness sake let them have a holiday! Hall of Fame? Do me a favour!!!

Why do people think Corr owed us something? I saw a few comments from people saying we stood by him....he was under contract and providing us with a useful service in scouting as I recall, so he was still working for the club even if he wasn't playing at the time. He's had one contract extension during his 5 years, which would still have been on L2 money. At his time of life and playing with the amount of fitness issues as have been well documented this season, can anyone seriously say they are surprised at him going somewhere he is offered more than we offered him? I think he's probably a lot more realistic than others, and realises L2 is his level at this time. He frustrated me terribly with his almost constant Discussing to refs when he felt hard done by, when what he should have done was buckle down and get on with it.

I am grateful to Barry for all he did give in his 5 years here, and for being a lovely bloke whenever we had any events off the pitch. I will forever remember MTBD his 2nd season when one of our dear supporters cornered him to show him the piece of music he'd hand written for him! Barry was a gent about it, but thankful once we got the bloke moved on!

Goodbye and good luck Barry Corr, except if you come up against us!

Well said. Add to your list the "oh god we haven't got any strikers" brigade, when we don't have a competitive game for 2 months.

Shame is he's almost the last of Sturrock's desperado's (only Prosser left now I think?), that team of unknowns thrown together 5 years ago who we felt no connection with other than the shirt. In that time, aside from the season lost to injury, he's been a rock for us, we took him to our hearts and deep down inside we probably all thought he'd see out his career here. But life goes on. It was probably time we stopped celebrating and started thinking more seriously about surviving & thriving in L1 and this has brought things into focus. I also think the fact no other L1 clubs (as far as we know) have shown any interest in BC says a lot about how he is viewed in the game. Great L2 forward, would probably struggle at L1 level. Good luck Barry, you helped save us in our hour of need, and for that I will always be grateful. Onwards & upwards.

I'm pretty sure we poached Leonard from them right at the beginning? Timlin arrived in Jan so that might be as good as it gets.

Leonard signed after Sturrock's first season. Summer 2011.

Timlin's initial loan was September 2010, so a month into that first season.

I am not sure he could bully defenders in L1 in the same way he could in L2.

a mixture of sadness and relief - he would not have cut it in L1, hopefully that cuts our aimless punts forwards and encourages the passing game we are good at...but sad because he can do a great job as target man and that will be needed at times next season when chasing a game.
Anyhow, don't stress people, we have 2 months to get a team sorted!

Some absolute rubbish being posted from some normally quite sensible posters.

In 5 starts and 5 subs appearances for us against League One and Championship teams BBBC scored SIX goals for us.

This season he scored against both promoted teams he started against. Last season he scored 4 goals against the promoted teams.

What on earth are you basing your assertions that he wouldn't cut it in L1?

Great news corr gone you made my day . Now we need pace up front ie theo robinson ,and simon church . would love to see Jason willams given ago ..:smile:

Pace can be an asset but speed alone does not necessarily make a good striker, you need some physical presence, positional sense and aerial ability in your front line too. If pace was all that mattered we might as well get that Cowan bloke back and play him up front with Weston.

My point is a pacy striker could have worked well up front alongside Corr. I never said you don't need pace in your team but a mix of players with different strengths is preferable. I'm amazed that some think that Corr leaving is a good thing, I get that he wasn't the most exciting player to watch but he was effective. We're Southend not Barcelona, players like Collymore and Eastwood (first time around!) who score loads of great goals come along once in a blue moon, but hey let's just dismiss one of our best strikers in the last 10 years because he hasn't got pace and didn't score 20 yard screamers.

This thread is pathetic. I do however believe those who are now slagging off Corr are still in the minority and that most are sad that he has chosen to move on. And those who are glad he has departed will no doubt only realise what Corr brought to this side when the season begins again in August. That is unless Brown gets a quality like-for-like replacement for Baz, which won't be an easy task.

One of the problems with playing Corr in the 451 system was that he had to do the running for the ball into the channels etc and that just isn't his strength. He isn't quickest but did hold the ball up well and his close control was good. He was our top scorer in more than one season for a reason though. I do feel that L2 is his level and just don't think he or his body would cut it in L1. Maybe he realised this and decided to help another L2 club to promotion. If Cambridge do it next season, we will then see in BBBC can cut it in L1 with Cambridge

Would like to hear corrs reasoning....I'm in Turkey at the mo and my brother in law got some Facebook feed....I felt compelled to actually turn my phone on.
